Bowing ones head for a mont of silence is a form of rememberance and respect. A minute probably did not seem like a long enough time period to give that rememberance and respect, so two minutes would cover that yet not be too too long where whatever activity was halted could resume. Two is better than one :).

What is two minutes out of your day when compared to the lifetimes that were stolen a year ago and all the other times all over the world? Two minute silences are about respect and helps to unite a nation in their hearts and minds, even if only for two minutes, and I always observe them.

It's just inflation taking its toll - I guess people today don't see why they should only be silent for one minute, when for just that little bit extra, they can be twice as respectful, and get it well and truly out of the way.

It is like being lectured to - a few people at the top decide and the rest of us bow our heads in obedience. I hope it helps someone.
