I need to go from Lubbock, Tx to either Kenai, Ak (close to my sister) or to Anchorage, Ak (close to my nephew)
I plan on going July 30-August 20.

It is not a very competetive market between Kenai and "the United States". There are two carriers between Kenai and Anchorage: ERA Aviation (which flies 16, 33 and 50-seat twin props and can be book through Alaska Airlines) and Grant Aviation (which flies single-engined, 10-seat Cessna Caravans but is a bit cheaper). Or it is a gorgeous 160-mile, 3-hour drive from Anchorage.
Alaska Airlines now flies from Houston (I know, the other end of TX) a few times a day, connecting in Seattle. Alaska also flies direct and indirect flights from all the West Coast cities and Denver and Chicago.
NWA connects through Minneapolis. Delta through Salt Lake.
This late and with current airfares, consider frequent flyer award travel. 20,000 miles on Alaska for a saver award (highly unlikely during high season), 40,000 miles for a "peak award". Your sister probably knows someone who might have miles that could be horse-traded. One isn't supposed to sell them, but obviously, it happens. 1.5 cents per mile is a pretty fair rate, maybe someone would sell for 1.0 cents each.

On Expedia.com, the cheapest flight for those dates Lubbock, TX (LBB) to Anchorage, AK (ANC) is $870 with 2 stops flying AmericanAirlines or Continental.
Cheapest fare Lubbock, TX (LBB) to Kenai, AK (ENA) is $909 flying Delta or Ara Aviation.
