You get what you pay for...

However, sometimes you find some good prices on a few good quality cameras. Olympus, Minolta, cannon, Nikon and Sony are some of the better camera's available. You make get an off brand 7.0Mega-Pixel camera for around 100 dollars but it's not worth even 10. My rule of thumb for buying an everyday digital camera is to spend more than 150 and not to exceed 250.

You're better off spending around 175 to 250 on a good brand name camera that will last you longer and take better pictures. I bought a factory re-furbished 5 Mega-Pixel Minolta Dimage G500 for about 200 nearly 1.5 years ago; and, it still takes awesome pictures and works great; and, I've taken it all over the world.

Check out http://www.overstock.com and Yahoo shopper deals to find some price quotes and a few product reviews before buying. I only spend about 1-2 hours researching my camera, over a two week period, before I bought my camera.

Good Luck and remember, you get what you pay for...

Don't go cheap. Happiness is never found the cheap way. Look for a good deal on line or e-bay. Keep in mind that 4 mega-pixel is about the lowest good shots are going to come from. Also, keep in mind shot speed. (The time it takes the camera to focus and take the picture)
Good luck.

It can very difficult to balance price and value. But from what I have seen, good value for money would be a Canon, if you are looking for a good beginner camera with slightly better functionality than other brands in the same price range.

If you want to check out functionality and affordability, try www.steves-digicams.com. Prices are included as well a complete camere test.

Good luck.
