Leg Cramps or Muscle Cramps (Charlie Horse) leg pain usually occur when a muscle tries to do more work than it has the strength and flexibility to handle. As a result, most people have experienced a cramped calf, biceps, hand or other muscle spasm at some time. Another cause can be dehydration. Muscle cells are made up of 80 percent fluids, so they need to be replenished constantly. A combination of overwork and dehydration can be more devastating.

Muscles contract and relax over and over again (Restless Legs) , but when a cramp occurs, the muscle locks in the contracted position (Charlie Horse) leg pain . When the muscle is irritated, it cramps to protect the area of difficulty. People who overuse their muscles during the day sometimes wake up at night with cramps. The best way to avoid a leg cramp is to warm up and stretch before and after exercise, and stay hydrated.

Very good question girl!! I Freaking hate them....they hurt like a b****...I usually get them every couple months or so..I just had one a few weeks ago when I went swimming in the pool....but I ate before I went swimming ( I know not a good idea) but someone told me that could have been an effect but how would my stomach being full effect my leg muscles?? Don't make sense to me...but I don't know why it happened I was doing a twist and after I did that the Charlie Horse kicked in.....It doesn't have to do with poor blood circulation, does it, or cloged artieries??? I couldn't walk on it in the pool I had to go to the side by the ladder and sit there until the pain went away..I usually rub my calf and it starts feeling a little better but doesn thelp much..

charlies horses usually occur when you over exert a specific muscle group. It can also occur from the body not having enough fluids, you may just be dehydrated. To somewhat prevent them, maybe instead of just water when doing high intensity workouts, try using a sports drink like Gatorade or Powerade.

there are several reasons that causes charlie horses, over worked muscle, muscles not in shape, sleep acne,in acne or lung troubles when one does not get enough oxgen to the brain usually the oxgen content drops to really low levels when one is sleeping when it drops very low the the brain triggers muscle spasm which will trigger a charlie horse, growing muscles, some cases can be fixed fairly easy ,just figure out the source

Well I usually get up and walk around to put pressure on my legs and feet to make sure they loosen up, and drink plenty of water and eating bananas is good because of the potassium...
You can also drink gatorade drinks to help hydrate you and it has potassium in it as well...

I used to get them in my calves. I would eat a banana and drink a bunch of water. Then I would work it out of my calf muscle. I haven't had one in years though.

You get them from not getting enough pottassium. Eat banana's or get some potassium pills. Good luck:)
