I'm sorry but the above answers do not make it. If you want to know what is the best airline you have to travel often and in different airlines to be able to say "this one".

Having being daughter of a British Airways and later Singapore Airlines manager I 've had my share of opinions and from the top.
The best airline is Singapore Airlines , for its service which is considered THE BEST in the world. The flight attendants have to be young, there is not one that is not young very young. That serves a purpose too. A beautiful smile and face behind the name SINGAPORE AIRLINES.

But its not about beautiful smiles and faces, its about the courtesy with which you are treated while in flight, the airplane types are very comfortable and the overall flight experience is a luxurious one and entirely non hazzle. The focus is on "care for the passenger" care of the utmost highest degree. That is a requirement in Singapore Airlines. It''s expensive to fly through them but the quality of service and flight experience is entirely non competitive since they are THE TOP and for its well famed international airline reputation because of these special care delivered to each passenger.

You try to fly other airlines and good luck if you can get a lot of attention because you are uncomfortable or need somehting. Flight attendants in Singapore Airlines have the highest values in attention care and serving their passengers. They are not only trained they have a standard which is set apart from the rest of airlines by the bucket load.

That's Singapore Airlines first then British Airways second.

I like Malaysia Airlines for passenger service and in-flight entertainment choices. They keep good time too. And often have good price deals. Nice way of getting from Europe to Australia or v.v., and Malaysia is well worth a visit too.

Singapore Airlines is a wonderfully smooth operation, like everything else in that country, and the services at Singapore Changi airport are terrific (modelled on Schiphol but ten times better organised).

Otherwise any airline which flies the Boeing 777 gets thumbs up from me. Lovely plane, quiet and roomy.

The best seat I ever had was on Continental, though I must say they did try to bump me off a connecting flight at Denver till I dug my heels in. Best food, Middle East Airlines, a long time ago.

TAP Portuguese Airlines used to have the reputation of having one of the world's best safety records, I don't know if it's still true.

I fly, on average, around once a week.

I'd say based on my experiences that Royal Thai Airways are the best I have flown on, but this is based purely on service. The staff are very friendly and attentive, plus the Economy seat pitch is an unusually high 34". This can be compared to 31" for long haul flights with most major carriers. It might not sound much, but you'll certainly notice it when you are sat in the plane.
The downside is that there is not much in the way of in-flight entertainment. If you want games and personal video screens, you're probably better off with Virgin. Don't let anyone fool you with false patriotism, British Airways are nothing more than mediocre.

I have travelled with:

1. Air India (2 times)
2. Indian Airlines (120 times)
3. Jet Airways (34 times)
4. KLM (3 times)
5. Air France (3 times)
6. El Al Israeli Airlines (4 times)
7. Thai Airways (4 times)
8. Singapore Airlines (4 times)

AND my best airline is SINGAPORE AIRLINES

Because:
1. They really care...if you drink one beer...they will give you one more...then one more....without asking.
2. Food is good,
3. Smiling faces
4. Neat & Clean aircrafts
5. On time.
6. Everytime I got a set of playing cards during the flight.
7. Good check-in /check out services (both in Japan & Singapore)

Believe me...i have found their service consistent...every time I have flown.

I found my experiences on WestJet were the best I have ever had.

They don't offer a meal service, but they keep you stocked on little items and free pop and water.

The flight attendants and aircrew are always cheery and will sing songs to do the safety checks and other announcements.

Some flights have had toilet paper races to see what side of the aircraft can disembark first as well.

Recently WestJet placed satellite TV in the backs of every seat so every passenger can watch TV while flying. The company is also in the process of upgrading their Boeing 737's again.

The aircrew and staff all have shares in the company (many of the first aircrew are now millionaires and still working for WestJet) so that helps them to bring in customers as it is their money as well that will be lost if people don't fly with them.
