Hi Hector,
Do yourself a REALLY BIG FAVOR and spend some time on Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Food & Wine, et al online. You don't have to subscribe to them for the basic info. Even better, take the time to go to the best wine store within your area and ASK FOR THE WINE BUYER to guide you. Better to call ahead to make sure he/she will be on site when you are there. This way, you are at least sure of the availability of the wine in your region!

Any of the single vineyard wines of Barbaresco or Barolo.
Also try Barbaresco from Produttori del Barbaresco, both the regular and single vineyard represent great value.
See their website produtoridelbarbaresco

If you really want it to be high end and money is no issue...
Chateau Margaux (1970's)
If money is an issue.. a Chianti classico will do like a Barolo (very pleasant to drink with red meat or lamb)

No, but my favourite wine, and I am a red wine-o, is a Chardonnay, Cake Bread.
Try it.

I'm not sure that it's high end, but my favorite is a Shiraz from South Africa called Kumala. You can find it in most grocery stores, however, in St. Louis, it appears to have been discontinued by at least one of our grocery store chains.
