What's the AL mean? I'm sorry if I am wrong about this, but looking at star names I keep finding this prefix. Curious what it means?

al means "the" in English.....thats the simple way to tell you..
it gives the word more specific meaning
for example in english:
table: it could mean any table
the table: it indicates a specific table that you are talking about

It's the definite article.

Al Jazira means The Island or The Peninsula.
Al Hamra means The Castle
Al Tikriti means The one from Tikrit

and so on.

im an arab im sure of this al is the in english for exampole some one said (al jazeera) meaning the island so al is the

"Alif"
is similar to the English article "A"/"the" (being " Al")
gives us The Light , or The Loyal or The Egyptian
Al Noor, Al whatever, Al Misri, and so on.
