My question is a simple one. Now mind you that i am a Christian, and have been for quite some time now. And am very aware of pauls teaching teachings. To be absent from the body is to be present with God. Now having believed this, how am i to believe that it is possible that their is a such thing as a spirit on earth?

Just to add to this question,,,im not speaking of the "holy spirit" of God. Im speaking about the spirits of people that are dead still lingering the earth.

i guess you are talking about the dead man's spirit here, well i don't believe in this either.But i know that there are evil spirit that put on known human image in somebody's mind as if he is risen from the grave and come with that image to toture and operated in that image. The spirit of the dead is either in paradise or sheol waiting for the judgement day. Ecclesiates 9: 5 - 6. The truth is that, the ghost thing is an evil thing and i don't think we want to dig deeper on that coz it does not help us spiritually, we need more positive and Godly stuff as the word of God says we must seek the heavenly stuff where our Savior Jesus is. Are you a practicing Christian , or do you just beleive there is a God, are you saved , have you read the Bible,if you have you don't understand it. Christ said that when he would( after he died) join the Father, (God) he would send a conforter ( Jesus's spirit or ghost ) to be with us , the ones that are saved, to live in us always until death, and this was Jesus's spirit(ghost) they used ghost in those day's to refer to spirit. So if you are saved the Holy Spirit(Ghost) is in you guiding and directing you if you will let him, if you don't then you will be having a really bad time, trying to live a Christian life because you will be listening to your flesh(the old sinner you)instead of listening to the Holy Spirit (the new saved you)

lots of good points about the Holy Spirit. The "ghost" that people see are probably signs and wonders from God or evil spirits that are assigned to different people. You never know whats lurking around the corner. But yea, our loved ones are not walking around protecting us, people who believe in the paranormal are a bit confused.

There's a lot of spirit on earth. mostly human that not yet accepted by God because of sins, or if they still has unfinished business on earth. once you accept by God, your spirit with God right away But sometimes a demon can also disguise as human spirit just to scare people. I know this because I was born with "gift" to see ghost. I'm catholic by the way...

There are spirits that aren't human.. the Holy Ghost, for instance. I, too, have been a believer for a long time and agree with that scripture. Humans go one of two places when they leave the body, and one of them isn't to stick around here. And I do believe in evil spirits, in a sense ~ Satan has minions, he tries to distract us from Jesus. the bible tells us that there is spiritual warfare all around us.
I guess what I'm asking is for you to add more to your question. What kind of spirit do you believe is on earth?

That you go straight to GOD upon demise is very true. The ghosts are angels, the angel of the Lord, and The Angel Of The Lord.. God has legions of ministering angels waiting all about to serve Christians and they are at our biding comanded of God to work on our behalf. The angel of the Lord is representative of angels who serve as special messengers from God sent to inform or instruct... The Angel Of The Lord is The Holy Lord God Himself, who on rare occassions has come in visible form to interact with men, and yes women too! oops: i forgot, there are also a large number on the enemy's side who are imposters. they show up at seyances(sp) fortune tellers, channelling services, they look like pretty purple ponies, Mickey, animated friends, imaginary friends, unicorns,Zeus, etc. They con the gullible then after seduction try to make you do horrible things..

The Holy Spirit is the presence of God. He is the endwelling part of God that we recieve as we accept Christ as our savior. He is the voice some call conscience that convicts us when we do wrong. He gives us gifts which can be considered skills. These gifts enable us to do His will within the church.
