I hear a lot of Christians say "God gives us free will" when we ask questions like "why does God allow (fill in the blanks) to happen"? If they want to use the "free will" arguement, then gay people are exercising their "free will' so why don't Christians just chalk it up to "free will" and leave them alone. What's good for the goose should be good for the gander, right?

lol...ACTUALLY I'm pretty educated in the Bible. Grew up southern Baptist AND went through 4 semesters of theology studies on campus. And ACTUALLY the Bible says NOTHING explictly regarding lesbianism, by the way, and the verses that DO pertain to male homosexuality was NEVER said by Jesus himself. It was all translated. Most of the scriptures relating to homosexuality was also written by Paul. A devout follower of Christ who shunned ALL forms of sex, not just homosexulity, because he believed it was a selfish pleasure that focused attention away from the worship of God.
Also it says in the Bible man is not to lay with man, because it is a "waste of seed" ..well DUUUH, back in those days , they needed PEOPLE to further the population, ANY sex that was not for the purposes of procreation was considered an "abomination" So...guess every male on the planet is going to go to hell if we sill live to THOSE standards, because masturbation must be a "waste of seed" too.

I think EVERYONE is missing the point. The QUESTION is...why can't we do what God gave us the option of doing (expressing free will) WITHOUT being judged by it by Christians? God gave us the right to follow or not to, so who are CHRISTIANS to overrule God's decision and pass judgement??

i don't wanna reiterate anything that's already been said on here, but yeah, i think you kinda missed the point of WHY christians believe that god gave you free will. it's like he's trying to test you. if he never gave you freewill, then it's like he wouldn't have known (???) what you would have chosen (???).

regardless,, i don't think you should really get too worked over what christians say or think. you should be worried about what they DO. it's because of them that you're not allowed to get married to the person you love. doesn't that piss you off?? it should. don't waste your time concerning over how they think you're headed for hell. waste your time instead on fighting to put an end to their oppressing you.

I don't think Jesus said anything about gays going to hell himself. The disciples and prophets have said in their letters to various groups of christians that homosexuality is unnatural and an act against God. Homosexuality was prevalent and accepted in society at the time when the books of the new testament was written and it is possible that the bible's wording was mistranslated either accidentally or purposefully all through the ages when the bible was being reprinted by hand by learned scholar monks.

I don't judge gays and lesbians and I don't condone christians condemning other people who are exercising their free will. What right does anyone have to cast a stone at anyone else? What I try to do instead is to love everyone, gay or straight, like I love myself. Hopefully, God will work his mysterious ways and make an impact on their lifestyle so they in turn bring praise to God.

That is all any true christian needs to ask for.

Greetings dear friend.

I just want you to know that I am a Christian. I also know what the Bible says about homosexuality and I can't really find a way to justify or rationalize the homosexual life-style from the Bible. But, that being said, I care deeply about what you struggle with. You feel the way that you feel and that's all there is to it. You cannot deny the feelings that you have. They are very real to you. Me arguing with you or telling you how you should feel isn't going to help you.

But, let's think clearly here for a minute about some of the things you said. God give us free will but that doesn't mean that every thing we chose to do is right. People who steal, hurt others or commit murder also have free will. But that doesn't mean what they chose to do with that free will is right. So, I think you should toss the God-given "free will" argument as a basis for your life-style.

And, I wouldn't say that Paul shunned all forms of sex. In I Corinthians 7, he actually in an indirect way encourages married heterosexual couples to have regular sex and to only abstain for very short periods of time for the purpose of prayer and fasting.

In fact, most of your arguments from scripture don't really hold water. But it does reveal how much you long to be accepted for who you are.

It sounds like you're searching for a way to support the life you're living. I don't know what to say- only that I do believe that God loves you very, very much and the whole issue of homosexuality is something that I don't understand. People who are so quick to put you down need to remember the words "walk a mile in my shoes." They have no idea how hard it is for you to deal with and admit the feelings that you have.

I figured you would probably get a lot of ugly responses so I just wanted to be one Christian of hopefully more that communicated some kind of understanding as well as hopefully some truth.

Love, joy and peace to you, my friend.

Well I believe you've taken the concept of free will out of context here friend. There is a free will, to sin and to do what is right. God will not stop us from doing either. If God prevented wars, where would the free will be? If God stopped people from being homosexual, where would the free will be? God has commanded us what to do but he doesn't force us to do it. He wishes for us to be pure, holy and without sin but he doesn't force that upon us. Can a homosexual enter heaven? They sure can. Is it ok to be a homosexual? Definitely not, the Bible tells us the story of Sodom and Gommorah and there are atleast a handful of other verses that talk about homosexuality as sin. If you choose to be homosexual, sure that's your free will. Is God pleased with that decision? Not at all, He's hurt that you would explore such an option when he wishes for you to be happier in other ways.

Actually I agree, God did give us Free Will
We all live life after life time to experience all forms of life
As Male and Female
We have all killed or been killed
That is why we have Karma
And with Karma, we have to pay it back in many ways
Christians are against it because they have not open their minds they believe and see only what they want to see.
They preach to others but do abide by what they preach
Same as Catholics they have to go to confession to confess their sins
But I ask why ???
Because most Catholics I have known or still know
Go right on out and do it time and time again.
If they have committed adultery or stole what ever, they think if they confess it is OK.
Well I have only 2 to Judge me and that is, God and Myself!
I admire anyone that has come out to admit to everyone what sexual preference they choose as for me I don't care if someone is
Gay or Lesbian
Black or White
Tall or Short
I look deep into the soul and that is what counts for me.

Love & Blessings
Milly

Christians don't understand the bible is why. The Bible says there is free will, a divine plan and homosexuality is a sin. You can't be gay, but then you have no free will. You can have free will, but then what happened to the plan and homosexuality being a sin? Divine plan? Well, you can't have both now can you? Just ignore 'em. They don't know any better. For all they know, heterosexuality could be the real sin.

Unfortunately homosexuals need to be delivered from a spirit that is keeping them in bondage. I know people who thought they should settle with being gay but God does not accept it. The truth is, the devil puts thoughts in peoples minds that they are homosexual and because there is a lack of spiritual knowledge, people believe it and act on it. They try to be accepted by everyone including the Lord. The fact of the matter is, until you understand how the devil works you are being oppressed from fulfilling your potential in Christ. The only way to break free is to go to a delieverance ministry that can cast the demon out of you. Dont get me wrong, everyone has demons that need to be cast out of them. They all have names. Your is homosexuality, the next guys could be depression. I hope this is helpful

Are Christians telling you this or are you wanting christians to pacify you by saying "it's o.k. to live a homosexual lifestyle"? If you are still living a gay lifestyle and no has stopped you by their words than you have used your option which is freewill. Coming to a religious section or outside your four walls expecting Christians to except ur lifestyle is putting ur self in the line of fire! Gays are coming to churches forcing their lifestyles upon Religions expecting acceptance when they know what God says in his word that it is an abomination and is unnatural.

First of all I wouldn't call it "free" will because Christ payed a huge price for us to have agency/will. You do haev the right to be gay. People shouldn't judge you, that is for the lord to do. Even if someone believes that you will be punished for your actions there is no reason to force their beliefs on anyone. I think it's ok to let someone know that you don't agree and then leave it alone but never to ridicule.

God gave us free will because he wants a relationship with us that isn't forced. He also gave us a set of rules to live by called the ten commandments. The first four commandments show us how and who to worship. The rest of the commandments show us how to treat our fellow man. Unfortunately, most people make up their own set of rules to live by because they want to keep doing what they want instead of what God wants. Don't listen to what others tell you. If you really want to know the real truth to what the bible says, read it. And I mean READ it, and pray to God to tell you the TRUTH.
