usually chicken soup is made from chicken stock, water that has had a chicken and herbs and vegetables boiled together for several hours, then it is strained and usually the meat is taken off the chicken bones and chopped and added to the soup, tho not always.

YES CHICKEN IS USED TO MAKE CHICKEN SOUP. JUST LIKE PEAS ARE USED T MAKE PEA SOUP, AND BEAN AND BACON, HAS BEANS AND BACON IN IT. WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THEY CALL IT CHICKEN SOUP IF IT WAS MADE WITH BEEF? OR NO MEAT AT ALL? CLAMS IN CLAM CHOWDER. OF COURSE!
