There is a sleep centre in the mind which gets activated by itself in most people at a time set by the biological clock in our body. In some cases, the 'activation' needs support. How to do it is the problem. Mind activity retards sleep. So, just try watching your thoughts without getting stuck to it. Do some deep breathing, with slow exhalation, at the same time relaxing the body consciously. It should help.

First of all you need to try to find out if your insomnia is being caused by something external that can be modified.

example... Are you drinking caffeine within 4 hours of sleeping?
if yes... try limiting your caffeine intake to not drinking or eating
anything with caffeine in it (yes chocolate contains caffeine)

Is there more noise than usual (like increase in traffic outside your house)
if yes... try ear plugs to dampen any background noise or try to
filter the background noise with white noise (the sound of a fan
or the radio not tuned to a station but just playing static)

Has you sleep schedule changed? The body has a biorhythm that if disrupted can cause sleep disturbances (example- during school your in bed every night by nine but now that its summer you stay up till midnight)
if yes try to maintain the same bedtime even if it is summer

if you can't find anything that might be disrupting your sleep it's wise to see a doctor "sleeping pills" are usually NOT the answer and many can be addictive and NONE should be used for more than a few days at a time without a doctors guidance

There are many things you can do. Are you under stress from work or personal life? That causes people to lose sleep as well. Of course it's hard to eliminate all stress from your life, but lose as much as possible. If that doesn't work, I would get some over the counter pills and take them until you get on a good routine.

Keep on doing something that will make u sleep! For example my mom will get sleepy whenever she reads. I will get sleepy whenever I'm watching a football match. Maybe u should try doing something really bored, it may bring u sleep.

take sleeping pills (as directed on the package) about an hour before you want to fall asleep- lie down and close your eyes after the hour is up- if you keep moving around, you'll just stay up...

i did it to regulate my sleep pattern- worked for me...

listen to relax music for sleep

see doctor - ask for alternative medicine for sleeping if necessary
sleeping pill may not be good, as it can be addictive, i.e. you will need a larger dose to have the same effect
