Usually, your guidance counselor can point you in the right direction about what classes you should take in high school for this career choice. I would recommend that you take a childcare class in high school.
Each state is different, but in Florida, pre-school teachers must complete 20+10 certified hours of childcare training. This is the minimum. You can accomplish this by going to a college that has an associates degree (2 years) in early childhood education. I know that Miami-Dade Community College offers 2 degrees for the price of one in education: early childhood education and elementary education. It is the equivalent of the 20+10 hours as well. You can then work in a pre-school for minimum wage up to about $10 an hour.
If you continue on to get your bachelor degree in early childhood education, you will need to put in 2 more years of schooling. Then you can take your certification test for the state fo Florida to be a certified teacher. Then you can teach in a public elementary school at a starting wage of about $30,000 per year. Plus you get full medical benefits.
So, to answer your question, the best route is to talk to your guidance counselor about what classes to take in high school, and then get your bachelor degree in early childhood education.

If you want to work at a center accredited by NAEYC you need to have at least 15 college credits of Early Childhood education. You can get a job as a floater and work your way up. More education will not only improve your job level and pay, but will make your life easier. An educated teacher can created a stimulating and organized enviroment that will enrich the children and keep them from killing eachother. Get a 2-year ECE dregree from a community college or a 4-year degree in Child and Family studies.

Find a career or technical school that is affiliated with your school district - the one in my county has a program that gives you two years of instruction in teaching preschool. If there is none, you will need to talk to your guidance counselor to see what to take in the way of college prep classes.
Whether you go to a technical school or not, you will want to find a college that has an Early Childhood Education program. I go to Kent State University, and they have a Bachelor's degree for ECE that is broken down to two categories: Preschool and Primary. They also have an Associate's degree through the regional campuses for those who want to teach preschool w/o getting a Bachelor's.
My sister graduated from Kent State in May with her Bachelor's in ECE and is teaching at a day care center.

I'd check with your school councillor, they will
have a number of colleges in your area for the
requirements you'll require to be a preschool teacher.
If you want to be Early Childhood Teacher than it
is a little different. I think it is about a 2 year program.
To be Teacher it normally takes about 4 years
All the best for your future planning, Yes, it is nice
to hear you want to be a teacher, what an inspiration.

As a preschool teacher myself, I beg of you to get your bachelors degree. There are many good 4 year programs out there and they will prepare you to provide high quality education for the children you will teach. We definitely need more people in this field who are well educated! Good luck!

Although I was a prechool teacher in the 1980's and haven't taught since, I think your best choice would be to enroll at a nearby junior college under the Early Childhood Development program--12 units should start you out and get you a position in the community. It's a demanding job, but the kids are worth it! God Bless!

Tips on Bullying: Bullies want to upset you. If you ignore them, they don’t get what they want. Bullies don’t want others to know what they’re up to. If you attract the attention of someone nearby, the bully will back off. Yell something like “No, you are not going to beat me up. Leave me alone.” Don’t look upset. Bullies feel powerful when they upset you. If you look uncaring, the bully has lost that “power.” Agree with the bully. Bullies count on you to argue with them. If you just agree, there’s nothing more for the bully to say. Give the bully some facts. I stutter because I caught the defective gene in my family. Sometimes people bully because they don’t understand why someone is different. If you give the bully some facts, you do two things: you show that you’re not upset and you might take away the bully’s reason for picking on you. People who bully want someone who responds in a way that allows them to feel powerful. A child without power cannot bully. Power can be defined as either physical strength, social status, or intimidating behavior.

I don't know where you live, but in Canada you have to get your Early Childhood Education Diploma. This takes 2 years at a College. After you graduate, you just apply to Day Cares.
