When a baby is a small person who screams all night, cries for attention, insist on food 5 times a day, smiles when they break wind, and is a pain in the neck on an aeroplane. They throw up after a drink, are always putting weight on and when in a car you have to drive c-o-n-s-d-e-r a-t-e-l-y and consequently you are always late?

I think it is because a baby needs nuturing and special attention, so it only seems instinctive to feel the same for that someone special. Hence we sometimes use the term, maybe subconciously.

Maybe because men tend to think that a girlfriend or wife for that matter, is just a lot of unnecessary effort. I've talked to guys who really love their partner but say that they are high maintenance. Maybe guys should be more open and tell their girls: "hey, I don't like you wining all the time about ..." instead of just ignoring them.
Or maybe its just because its simply because you like it when we moan in bed

It's a term of endearment and shouldn't be taken literally; but at the same time you should show loving kindness towards your partner - just as you would a baby.

i dont know about babies wanting feeding 5 times a day mine wanted it every 2 to 3 hours but you do make a good point

I think baby has more definitions than what you just described. "Baby" also is a word of affection towards someone.
