and when i'm serious he's still playing around..I've tried telling him to take me a bit more seriously but nothings really changed..what should I do!

IT SEEMS YOUR BF IS A REAL JOKESTER AND HE CAN'T SEEM TO BE SERIOUS IF IT KILLED HIM OR RATHER IF IT KILLED YOUR RELATIONSHIP. AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THAT WAS A BIG PART OF IF NOT THE REASON YOU GUYS BROKE UP.
I CAN SEE WHERE YOU'RE COMING FROM. I CAN. I MEAN SH*T THERE'S A TIME AND A PLACE FOR JOKING AND THEN THERE'S A TIME TO CUT THE CRAP AND BE SERIOUS. HOWEVER, THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE WHO FOR THEIR LIVES CAN'T BE SERIOUS!!!!!!!!! I MEAN THEY CAN BE SERIOUS FOR LIKE 8 SECONDS! AND THEN WHAM! ANOTHER STUPID COMMENT THAT THEY THINK IS SUPPOSED TO BE FREAKING HILARIOUS!
OF COURSE WE'RE NOT LAUGHING. I'VE KNOWN PEOPLE LIKE THAT. I AM WAY TOO SERIOUS AND I DON'T LIKE IT. BUT I DON'T HAVE TO BE IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM EITHER.
SO I GUESS WHAT I'M TRYING TO GET AT IS........ COULD IT BE THAT YOU'RE WAY TOO SERIOUS AND MAYBE THAT'S THE PROBLEM? MAYBE IF YOU LIGHTENED UP? IT'S JUST A THOUGHT. ONLY YOU KNOW WHAT YOU GO THRU. IT'S JUST SOMETHING TOO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION.
AND SWEETIE IT DIDN'T WORK OUT THE FIRST TIME, YOU GAVE IT A SECOND CHANCE, MAYBE YOU TWO JUST AREN'T COMPATIBLE. MAYBE YOU SHOULD JUST LET HIM DOWN EASY AND LET HIM KNOW HIS PERSONALITY CLASHES WITH YOURS AND IT'S TIME TO CALL IT QUITS AND THIS TIME FOR REAL.

If you want to change him so much then maybe he isn't the one for you. He jokes around because he can't deal with looking at his feelings inside, maybe he thinks serious things are for adults and he doesn't want to grow up yet.
If you split up once over this then it may happen again- you can't change him- but if you can love him for what he is then that may be enough.

thats probably his defnse mechanism.. when a situation occurs that is to up tight for him he jokes around.. my husband does this too.. if it gets too bad though you can't really ignore it... just tell him calmly that this would be a time to be serious... i know it sound like your talking to a kid.. but you basically are

Maybe he's trying to express himself in a humorous way to avoid you taking things personally, or hurting your feelings due to your sensitivity.
