Eeeek! This sounds gross but for about a month or more I have been constipated... but it's mainly my muscles that are acting up! I dont know if constipation does that but I can't seem to be able to "push" as much as I'd like or use to...

Sorry for details... I'll give 10 points to a good answer.

You could try over the counter stool softners and then you would'nt need to strain near as hard.
Also increase you water intake and add more roughage to your diet.
I saw this bumper sticker:
Constipated people just don't give a s**t!

Did you 'pull' a muscle there? I would definately go get it checked out - the reason for this (and yes this sounds like a gross doc's visit but here's why) is that you must have regular bowel movements or you get constipated (as you know). If you do not have a bowel movement in 3 or 4 days, you need to go to the doc. Your bowels have 'just so much room' in them, and when thye get too full, they do literally explode inside you.. this is what causes a very severe infection called peritonitis, that people still die from every year in this country. It's where all the fecal matter get spread all over your 'intestinal cavity' and they have to open you up and 'try to clean' it all up. Guess what - that isn't easy either! This happened to my Grandmother they opened her up twice in a weeks' time and she almost died! So be careful and don't fool with it. You ain't got NUTHIN the docs haven't seen before - I promise.. even Poop ;)

Are you on a low-carb diet? That will do it to you... Low carb diet lower the amount of water in your system and that in turn causes constipation. Metamucil is a good solution for that. Other fibre laxatives may contain sugar though.

If you're not on a diet, try eating some starchy or fibre foods and drink a lot of water.

U need to take a stool sofener- u can buy them otc with pharmicists advice for the constipation itself. However, u need to see a Dr. U may have internal hemmorhoids, or any number of other problems, including nerve impingement in your spine (worse case scenerio!)

You may need to add more fiber to your diet. Since you indicated that this has been ongoing for about a month you may want to see a doctor to get a checkup. It is also important to make sure that you are getting enough water daily.

you need more fiber and water. not sodas or anything else. drink about 10 glasses of water. don't forget your fruits and vegetables. there's some pills that you can take like citrucel or benefiber. i hope this helps. i personally take the citrucel for my ibs which sometimes makes me constipated.
