The FBI's official label for illegal sharing and reproduction of media is intellectual property theft. The new warning will depict the FBI's star and shield and read: "The unauthorized reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal. Criminal copyright infringement, including infringement without monetary gain, is investigated by the FBI and is punishable by up to five years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000."

Some users may not realize that LimeWire and other file-sharing programs don't just allow them to download files from others. The software also offers to share the user's files.

It's not illegal to have LimeWire, however Downloading copyrighted material without paying for it is illegal. You can get caught, you can go to jail, you can be sued for every cent you posess, but most importantly you can get away with it. In the end it's up to you; you can choose to download copyrighted material and risk the consequences.

There is a SLIM CHANCE of course of getting caught, but you know..**** happens..

I don't think its a FBI matter but you can get in trouble with the law. Only if you use limewire to download or steal programs/music or other illegal activities.

no.... but you can be prosecuted by local, state or other authorities, including the FCC if you are among one of the users caught during their random raids. They have been known to collect three to four hundred users at a time, and fine them anywhere from 700-3500 dollars, and threaten them with up to 5 years in jail for theft and copyright infringement.

Lime wire in and of itself is not illegal. Only if you engage in illegal activity will you need to worry about it. Activities such as MP3 swapping and kiddie porn (which is a serious problem on Limewire) can land you in the slammer.
