Just as teenaged girls think they are ready to have children, teenaged boys want to be dads. It is really a need to have someone to love. There is nothing wrong with that except that you are not taking into consideration all of the needs of a child. A child has to have a clean safe place to live, food, clothes, medical care, and money for education, etc. You must be an adult who has in a secure place in your life and has planned for a child to be a successful father.

Around that age, many young men are seeking who they will be for the rest of their lives. They are trying to define themselves as individuals, not as part of their parents any longer. That being said, one who is seeking to be a father may simply see himself as being a very family-oriented man. There is nothing wrong with that other than he, the mother, and the child would all be better off if he got a college education first.

my youngest son has talked of being a husband and father since he was about 12. it is one of his fondest dreams. it is normal for someone 17-18 to WANT to be a father SOMEDAY. it is also normal to wait until the time is right to act upon those desires.

if you are with someone who you love and want to spent the rest of you life with then it is perfectly normal. you want to take your relationship to the next level. At 16 when i met my now fiance i wanted to become a mother and my partner then was 19 and he was a bit thingy on the situation but now im 20 (his 23) and we are both wanting to become parents and oth been dedacated for over a year, unfourtnly we are haveing trouble conceiving. But if you are both ready to make that commitment and ready to give up your freedom to look after a child i say go for it.

The feeling may be OK or not OK, its your personal choice.
But along with the kid, comes the responsibilty, loving wife, job, money, emotional support, patience etc and all that which you needed when you were growing...
Not the right age, I would say. Hold on, enjoy your life alteast 4-5 years.
