first let me commend you on a well thought out question then answer it with this,i think actual police corruption is negligable ,less than 1% most likely, but I fear and hate the police because everytime i see someone arrested the POLICE over react like they have something to prove-they love to tout the line about "putting their life on the line everyday", who among us is NOT putting their life on the line daily,so its only police who get killed at work?one way to close the gap might be compulsory service ,a DRAFT if you will, then as people got out more and more people of diverse backgrounds would have had the police experience and as a natural benifit co-operation would increase dramaticlly as peoples desire to network and be included would come into play-just see how all the NEW VETRANS are acting towards each other-its hard to hate your co-worker/brother in arms

Police Officers are commishened thru thier respected States. Thier is and always will be a problem with Police corruption and unethical behaviors. But, the system is getting harder. It's harder to become an Officer now than it was 10 or 15 years ago. It's slow paced but it will get there. If you read the 7 Articles of the Constitution you will notice that they were designed to protect citizens from the Government (Police Officers as well). If you feel you were treated unfairly you can file a citizens complaint and it will get looked into. Every Department has a Internal Affairs office who love to find dirt on Cops..So remember..you do have a right to be treated fairly.

The easiest way.... let every non-convict carry a gun. Vermont is a good example. Vermonters (the ones born and raised there, not the cheap imports from NYC) Real Vermonters have guns. Guns in their house, car, pickup truck. And they drink and drive so the cops that pull over a vehicle with Vermont plates know there is a gun. Guess what, abuse by police is not even a topic of discussion. Aside from deer in deer season, shooting are very uncommon... why? everyone can shoot back.... So instead, now and then there is a fist fight, then its Miller time and all is good again.
(They are called "Vermonters" not Vermontians, yup, that'll get some looks around the bar)

It would be nice, but it seems that the way I talk to my husband, friends, even my mom is considered as being mouthy or disrespectful to a cop... How am I supposed to treat a person as an equal when I can get a ticket (and the accompanying fine) for being myself?
Or how about when they pull you over and ask you if you know why you're being pulled over... did you know that what you say could be taken as an admission of guilt? Sounds kinda deceitful (sneaky, underhanded) to me.
I don't like to be around people I can't trust, so I'm uncomfortable when I have to be around cops... at least that's why I treat police differently...
I guess the problem is that it's their job to catch us "breaking the rules" They are paid to be "out to get us".

It is a problem that has existed a very long time. Police are exposed to the lowest level of society. This in itself would give anyone a negative attitude. Oh whats the use?!!!!!!! It all boils down to this most of them like to flex their muscels. NOT ALL but most.. Apparently it gives them some sort of rush. As long as agencies hire people with the psylogical profile most of them have there is no hope for change. Keep in mind that the people who do the hiring have the same profile. Oh well it was a nice question anyway.

i imagine for once, that police officials can examine our comments and they could reply and there is not any prompt hazard to both facet. I delight in what they do in a particular sense, yet in the adventure that they in simple terms doesn't act like Nazis, it will be a lot extra acceptable. they have a tendency to cope with all of us as a criminal. and also you're accountable and it is your interest once you're pulled over to attempt to teach your innocence without a decide or jury. If accountable take the cost ticket and be on your way. I stay in a small city, one quit mild and when you're out after darkish and they don't understand you.... beware! Of coarse I stay in Oklahoma and that i call it, bubbaworld, yet that is beside the point i'm attempting to make. in the adventure that they might in simple terms be civil and respectable - they might see that each and each and every human being that they have got contact with isn't a criminal, in simple terms human like they're.

THE WAY TO CLOSE THE GAP WITH COPS AND CITIZENS IS TO HAVE A PROFESSIONAL POLICE FORCE. IN GERMANY, A POLICEMEN HAS TO GO THRU A 4 YEAR TRAINING PROGRAM. BY THE TIME THEY ARE READY TO BE OUT IN THE STREETS. THEIR COPS KNOW EVERY LAW, VIOLATION, AND PUNISHMENT. WHEN A GERMAN COP TELLS YOU TO DO SOMETHING, YOU BETTER.HE HAS THE TRAINING TO BE JUDGE, JURY, AND IF NECESSARY, EXECUTIONER.--- HERE, THEY HIRE COPS BECAUSE OF AFFIRMATIVE ACTION PROGRAM, WHICH BRINGS RIF RAF IN THE POLICE FORCE. THEIR NOT HIRED FOR THEIR INTELLIGENTS.

You took a good first step by asking the question. I have been a victim of a bad cop--don't get me wrong, I'm not a cop-hater, but you are quite correct that they have the upper hand and they often abuse it.
