In high school my favorite novel was John Steinbeck's "The Grapes Wrath," and I'm not sure it was an assignment. I may have just read it to read it. I can still recall the men sitting on their haunches and discussing how they were going to move their families from the dust bowl of Oklahoma to California; and I can still hear Grandpa saying how California is the promised land and when he got there he was going take those grapes off the vine and squeeze them and let the juice run down his face.

In college, my favorite novel was Robert Penn Warren's "All the King's Men." This was an incredibly detailed read that took a little effort to get through because I'd not read a book like that before. Once I got into it I was absolutely mesmerized. The book was made into a fairly good movie of the same name and directed by Robert Rosson. I believe it won an Academy Award in 1948, if not for best picture then for Broderick Crawford as best actor.

My favorite novel was A SEPARATE PEACE by John Knowles. CATCHER IN THE RYE (by J.D. Salinger, of course), a novel in a similar vein, was also a favorite of mine, but I tend to find that people have a hard time loving both; one is usually worshiped and adored while the other goes hated.

I don't really think that I have a favorite from school. Literature always ruined books for me, because I was supposed to analyze them...understand whatever symbolize existed (and some teachers found symbolism when there was none)...when I just wanted to read the story for enjoyment.

It's a toss-up between Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and Bronte's Wuthering Heights

at Uni, I rather liked Malory's Morte D'Arthur

Harry Potter is the only book I've ever willingly read. I've never been so captivated by a book to the point where I couldn't wait until my next chance to read it. I zealously read the first 4 installments through and through. The only book I've ever willingly read, and the others I skimmed through only because I had to for book reports. I liked it because I could relate to Harry's plight. I wasn't treated very well by my family, either.
