heck even when they charge - they really dont care... I mean they SAY they do... but I have NEVER heard of any one giving away free puppies and asking for references, doing home checks or calling back the new owner in 30 days to see how the puppies are doing...
its a known fact that most "free to good home" puppies and kittens DO NOT find good homes, and an estimated 40 % or less are in the same home that took them in a year time...

some people come to take the free puppies - well dressed with kids etc.. but they are professionals either taking them to sell to research labs or to use to train illegal fighting dogs to kill.. these people are not stupid they are not going to show up dressed like animal killers and expect you to give them a pup - although that said - very often people giving away pups or kittens are despirate to get rid of them so just turn a blind eye to questionable people who are willing to take them off their hands...
Pet stores dont care either - if you have the cash they will make the sale...many back yard breeders will do the same...
Reputable breeders try to screen and will do call backs - some even insist you are on a waiting list
SPCA and other shelters are also concerned (although some time staff have clouded judgement becuase they want some pets gone) they do try to screen people well, at least most do, and I Know they do and can refuse adoptions

Probably not. Most responsible breeders care about the families the dogs go to. But "free puppies" tells me that the dog didn't get spayed, and got pregnant, and they're just looking to get rid of the puppies. So, they probably just want to get rid of them. Same way with cats and kittens. Around here, there's always an ad in the paper for free kittens. Wouldn't it just be some much easier to have your pets fixed, unless you're a responsible breeder?

No or if they do they can't do a good job of checking people out. That's why so many of these poor dogs are ending up in animal testing rings or with sickos who kill them in the most horrible ways. Anyone who breeds is responsible for what happens to each and every one of those puppies and when they don't take that seriously we end up with more death, pain, and misery. The people who take them for fighting will often feed these puppies to their fighting dogs to increase their thirst for blood. What is this stupid world coming to?

who's "they"? a pound type thing... puppy depot... sale by owner... ? If it's the owner of the mother giving away the litter most likely not just desperate to get rid of them. Puppy depot thing? they usually do background checks. One time i couldnt get a puppy because my cat was an indoor and outdoor cat so it could carry diseases to the puppy. ::rolls eyes::

Most of the time, people really DO care what happens to their pups. They just might not be able to take care of all of the litter themselves and would like to give them to a family that will love them.

People who love their dogs and pups will check out prospective owners for the pups they have raised. Too often free to good homes, end up as bait for fighting dogs, or in laboratories tho.

Yes, I'm sure they will do some sort of check or ask questions to make sure the family will care for the pups.

No they are too cheap to get their dog fixed & when they have pups they ditch them wherever. Our walmart parking lot is full every Sat. by 8am with people trying to dump mutts off on other people. It's sick!
