I am not really sure. I never thought about any of this stuff. So, you're trying to concieve...me too. I have heard that drinking soda in general is not good, especially when you are trying to concieve. Okay, I just looked it up. Aspartame is a sugar replacement. Check out this website:

It should give you all of the info you are looking for.

Aspartame has under gone many studies as to its safety. Unless you have phenylketonuria, it shouldnt be of concern. If you have any belief that it is causing some harmful side effects, I agree with the previous poster, if you think that it is having negative effects on you and you are concerned, stop consuming the products for a period of time. If they persist, or if you start eating aspartame products again and they come back, I would see a doctor to make sure everything is okay. I wouldnt be that worried, though.
There are many products made with other sweeteners. I know for sure you can get yogurt and coca-sola products made with splenda, and in my opinion, they taste better than products made with aspartame, though they do have a couple more calories (literally) Keep in mind, that if you are considering cutting aspartame out of your diet, that Equal and Canderal should be cut out, too. Because they are aspartame based sweenteners.

I hope you feel better!

This is an artificial sweetener. There is a lot of controversial information out there about aspartame. Do a quick google search and you'll likely get thousands of hits. It was approved by the FDA but many sources question the integrity of this decision. I try to steer clear of it if I can.

Incidentally, saccharin was taken off the governments suspected carcinogens list because no concrete evidence has been produced.

Yeah, and I would stop drinking & eating foods w/ Aspartame. You might be hyper-sensitive to it & it has been known to cause cancer in certain lab rats, so "think" rat. Try the foods that have "Splenda". It's made from real sugar so you shouldn't have any side-effects from it. You shouldn't use, drink, eat, etc. anything that's considered a "chemical" or "processed drugs" if you're trying to conceive. Whatever you take is in your system then it gets transferred to your unborn child when feeding off you, through the umbilical cord, which is how they survive for the first 9 mos of their lives. Drink more water - zero everything!!!

aspartame can give you all sorts of weird reactions. It is a chemical, it is an artificial sweetener (no calorie sugar substitute), unless you are a insulin dependent diabetic or extremely obese, you do not need to eat foods that contain this chemical. The more simpler you eat, the better it is for you. I suggest you continue to read labels, try giving up 'diet' or 'fat free' foods for a week or so and see if your headaches go away. Also, most gums 96% have some sort of artificial sweetener in them.

I read an article a few years back about how they are now starting to link it to alzheimers. They are starting to see a lot of young women with the first signs of alzheimers and at first could not figure out why. They later found out that most of them used Aspartamine. I stay away from it.

It is poisen. Stop drinking it-- just have a few regular soft drinks ...occasionally. They do make diet coke w/splenda but it also may be the caffeine giving u headaches...I wouldn't fool with Splenda either if trying to conceive..(don't forget to get folic acid!) just take a vitamin each day... good luck

I also get headaches from aspertame(sp) I have verified it in my case. The body breaks it down into formaldahyde...a fact the soda companies don't care to talk about. I avoid it, and would suggest you do the same at least while you are trying to get and during pregnacy (by the way good luck in that!).

Aspertane and sacherine are close and have been (by some studies) to have a chemical change when heated to about 101 deg F. and is very toxic to the nervous system(ie. brain) and has been linked to birth defects(by some studies).

There is no negative conclusive evidence on Aspartame. There is however, conclusive negative evidence on Saccharine, however it is not used as often as Aspartame. If you feel that you have a sensitivity to this ingredient, discontinue use and see if you don't feel better.
