I have a friend that needs by-pass surgery and she is in the same situation. She found the surgery could cost her anywhere from $7k to $20k. She is currently saving up money. And, of course you can pay cash for something like that. You can pay cash for everything (unless you're on a cruise ship). Some doctors offices even allow payment plans. Just do mighty thorough research on everything before jumping the gun. This could be a serious deal, and you need to be prepared for it all!

You can have any medical procedure performed, as long as the doctor finds it ethically acceptable.
The general cost of a full gastric bypass ranges between $20,000 to $50,000. A laparoscopic surgery or "mini-gastric bypass" will cost you around $17,000, but do shop around. Prices vary widely from coast to coast and with experience.

Gastric Bypass Surgery/gastrectomy/lapband (all types of weight loss surgery) is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.
I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your lobesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
My cousin got her obesity surgery in India through the forerunners healthcare .SHe is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps

yes you can pay cash for the procedure. you need to consult the Dr or a few Dr. to get some prices. do you have any other medical problems ie: diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, acid reflux, shortness of breath when you exercise if you meet some medical qualifications you may be able to get the insurance to approve it consult a Dr.

u can have that procedure done in the u.s or outside the u.s as long as ur willing to pay. or your insurance will cover it as long as your physician says it is vital to your health. and it doesn't cost 20,000. like the knucklehead stated in her answer. there are accredited doctors in mexico who will perform the procedure. they move to mexico where the cost of living is lower and they can perform the procedure at a lower cost and still make a financial killing. just check around. some insurances will cover you if you like 100lbs overweight and it is vital to your health.
