This is a fabulous song by León Gieco made famous by the great Mercedes Sosa! (Both are from Argentina)
All I ask of God
Is that war not make me indifferent (i.e., to suffering)
It's a huge monster that steps hard
on the poor innocent people
(repeat)
The other parts of the song are even better:
Sole le pido a Dios
Que la vida no me sea indifferente
Que la reseca muerte no me encuentre
Vacio y solo sin haber hecho lo suficiente
All I ask of God
Is that life not make me indifferent (ie., to suffering)
That (dry) death does not find me
Empty and alone without having done enough (i.e., made a difference)
It's one of my favorite songs and Mercedes Sosa sings it with such passion. It's inspiring and chilling. I heard her in concert in 1992 or so.
Enjoy it! Be moved. The literal translations don't do it justice. It's like Pablo Neruda's poetry; you can't just read it, you have to feel it. And to feel this song, you have to learn about the people of South America, and their suffering, and the injustices. And maybe it will touch your heart and inspire you not only to learn more of the beautiful Spanish language but to fight for human dignity, peace and justice.

It can be (very) roughly translated to:
Alone, I ask God
That the war is not to me indifferent
It is a monstro (monster?) great and strong steps over
All the poor innocence of people
It is a monstro (monster?) great and strong steps over
All the poor innocence of people

I agree with Dakota's translation with a couple of differences. I think it should be:
All I ask of God
Is that I not be indifferent to war.
It is a big monster that tramples
All the humble innocence of the people.
It is a big monster that tramples
All the humble innocence of the people.
Otherwise her answer is the best and with lots of great background info.
