I don't understand why people are getting so freaked out. I mean I could say that Jesus married Cher way back in '83 and no one would change their beliefs. Why would a movie change them?
Anyone who has actually read the bible, or believes that God never married, is not going to change their beliefs over a movie. Beliefs, you cannot change. Ideas, on the other hand...

I remember when I was a child, we were told in church that we could be certain that the Bible was authentic because God had preserved it through out the ages. Since that time many other "Gospels" have been unearthed remarkably preserved.
Many of the stories they include are the same we've been indoctrinated with for centuries. Others are stories that may have been common place long ago but have long since been forgotten and/or obfuscated. If one believes in the Bible as truth, it would be reasonable to believe other writings of the time as well. If one doesn't believe that the Bible is the truth, he might still find some entertainment in these other "Gospels" that have been brought to light. Dan Brown is certainly not the first to suggest that Jesus was the husband of Mary. There are many aspects of the life of Jesus that aren't noted. This may very well have been one of them for any number of reasons. Jesus may well have remained a virgin. We just don't know. I personally believe that he was, indeed, Mary's husband and believe in the distinct possibility that she bore his child.

Here is my take on the matter and it is a simple one really: Take any group of educated people in this country (USA) and tell them the world is flat and they will laugh at you. Tell some girl in a bar that you are the incarnation of god and she should go home with you and there is no way she will believe you (although may give you points for having the guts to try THAT line!)... yet suggest to other wise intelligent people that a supreme being of unlimited power and knowledge incarnated into the body of a human being and suddenly otherwise intelligent people throw all reason out the window. I personally loved the movie, but did so from the standpoint of the villians. Can you imagine what finally being able to prove Christ's MORTALITY would do to the state of world events? Suddenly all the great "Holy Wars" would be revealed for exactly what they were: Mankinds excuse to brutalize each other in the quest for power, land, money, sex, or whatever the excuse of the day was...all in the name of God. After all, who could argue with them? If you opposed the brutality then you were a heretic and subject to that same brutality yourself, and all your lands, holdings (and that of your family) were forfeit...not to mention your very life.
For the sake of these people i certainly hope that Christ truely is the incarnation of God and not merely a religious leader who assumed the mantle of annointment (or had it thrust upon him by well meaning followers who came after). If he was NOT then i'm quite certain "God" is going to be furious about the truely abhorrible acts which have been committed in his name by the so called Followers of God (by ANY religious name).
As far as was Mary the wife of the MAN called Christ/Yeshua/Jesus? Honestly i can't really say, but will say that I would not close the book upon such a possibility.

Mary was not Jesus' wife. The Da Vinci Code is untrue. Jesus never married. There is no mention of Him getting married in the Bible. The author of this book is using what he has read in book that do not count as scripture.

I believe that Mary was Jesus' wife. It would not have been customary of that time for a woman to journey with men othewise- Mary was Jesus' 13th disciple, and as clearly stated in the bible, he loved her differently than the rest.
Why is it so hard to believe that Jesus would have a wife?
Do not forget all the texts and books (of the bible) that were not voted in under Constantine... the Apocraphies, the Gospel of Mary Magdelene, the Gospel of Thomas-
The disempowerment of women was neccesary during the rise of Christianity due to the conversion - church and state were one at that time, and many pagans, who consider feminine sacred, were prosecuted and killed. Women were healers, and midwives, they were the first doctors. As the earlu church/government wanted to grow they needed to convert more people to christianity- in order to do that they persued and infiltrated the society with anti feminism, thus, making women evildoers, how could the council vote in any test that evidenced Jesus having a woman at his right hand, a former pauper prostitute?
Really give it some thought, research it, and while your at it look at how the pagans were overthrown- even the holidays are masked in Christianity- but underneath it all- its not about that!

The Da Vinci Code is complete fiction. There is no historical evidence to suggest that Jesus was every married to ANYBODY, let alone Mary Magdalene.

No, she was not at all. He never married. Jesus is God in the flesh so the idea that He would marry would be a contradiction of the character of the Christian God according to the Bible.
Ironically, Dan Brown wants to have you believe that Jesus was not God, but yet if that were true, then his children were no more special than you or I, hardly worth all the hullabaloo. So, either Jesus was God and never married, or He was a mere man and his children were nothing to write a book about.

Even though it is not a bad thing to be married, but Jesus WAS NOT married. There is no historical dogumentation of his marriage. It would be in the Bible if He was marreid.
That movie is made out of a fiction book. In a book there is maybe 20 % truth, and it is mixed cleverly with fiction, to confuse simple minds. The book is a beach book!

It was a Movie! Written by a man, a sinnner no doubt just like the rest of us. Jesus is God's son born of the virgin mary. If you read the Bible which is God's word to us you would believe that mary was a follower of Jesus because he accepted her for what she was and then she believed in herself and like all the male disciples, she was a disciple in her own way.
God said that we as Christains would be challenged and tested. HERE is Satan's chance.

Well, if he did it doesn't make a difference to me because I'm Muslim and I don't believe Jesus is divine in the first place.
However, it completely makes Christianity and the Bible false.
In my opinion, if two out of the three major religions in the world do not accept Jesus' divinity or trinity then they must be doing something right.
Not to say that Christians are at fault. Many of them are wonderful people who do good deeds and in Islam, they will go to heaven.
