Hey, I've got the money. The pastor and his wife, they've been real nice to me and my family after some of the donations I've made. We even have special parking at the church.

I'm wondering if I start tithing 20% on a regular basis if it would get me some consideration with the big guy? Would it help to smooth over some of those little transgressions that I've had, especially the one with my secretary?

Considering you'll get it back from the collection plate, I'd say go for it. It's a win-win for you.

That is really sad. The 'big guy' as you call Him, is not looking for your money as a way to buy your way out of hell. He really has no need for your 10 or 20%. It's all an issue of the heart. The O.T talked about 10%, the N.T talked about giving from your heart. IF you have the extra money and want to see the Word of God spread through the work of your church, than give it. But if it's just to 'redeem' yourself from past transgressions... keep it. And what's sad is your Pastor should know this!

I believe that your motives are not where they should be, and the spirit of the law is more important than the letter of the law. I don't have much respect for the direct relationship of special privelages by your pastor to the amount of money you give the church. Further in my opinion, your pastor has sinned by granting you special treatment. God cares about your humbleness and obedience to the law of tithing. It is already his money. He does care about your transgressions but it is totally separate. Your motives are all messed up I'm afraid.

No, you will not earn any extra brownie points from God by tithing 20% instead of 10%. God is asking for only 10%. Plus God loves a cheerful giver. Don't give because you have, give because it's the right thing to do.

I personally give 10% for tithe and 2% for the church budget.

Nah, tithe your 10%, and give the rest as offerings to causes you really respect. Sponsor a child or something. And no, your secretary's child doesn't count....even if it's yours.

I think you ought to "tithe" everything you have, sell all of your possessions and give them to the poor, and then pick up the cross and follow Jesus instead of posting these made up questions to see how many people are going to fall for them.

Others have given good solutions yet i want to problematical. Giving 10% of your earnings to the church isn't stated everywhere interior the recent testomony from the attitude of cutting-side preparation (Hebrews 7:4 refers to an old testomony adventure). even if, we are called to provide sacrificially & to be pleased in our giving. (2 Cor 9:6,7 ; Phil 4 :15-19). Giving become something obviously practised by using the recent testomony church (Acts 4:32-37) we are lower than New testomony grace truly than old testomony regulation & i could not insist that as a fellow believer you may want to provide a particular percentage of your earnings. even if, we've a more advantageous calling than those who were lower than old testomony regulation & as such, perchance, we would want to continually provide more advantageous than 10%. inspite of this, we would want to continually not in any respect bypass into debt & any Christian might want to pay off impressive money owed earlier giving to the church (Rom 13:8). You stated, "...... it become bumped off the day Jesus died, i will examine those verses in a sec yet why do christians nonetheless communicate about it?? i think like that is something i'm not expertise completely." probably because church homes sense embarrassed about gazing for believers to provide more advantageous than 10%. probably because we (i'm accountable too) legalise our Christianity too a lot. In my church, there isn't in any respect any communicate about tithing, in simple terms that 10% is the position one starts from earlier giving extra. in case you provide to the Lord sacrificially & with the right concepts-set of humility, then you definitely will not in any respect lose out. continually attempt to provide as anonymously as achievable. it is also an chance for self-exam to even if we are unnecessarily squandering our money which in turn provides us the prospect to provide extra - purely you would nicely be the decide of that.

You can't buy your way into heaven. You'd have to go through the eye of a needle, or something. Or your camel would.
