I've given myself highlights like a reddish color and they didn't show up all the way cause I had dark brown hair. But I did blonde highlights and they came out fine. I've dyed my hair a darker brown and it was fine too. I guess you just got to make sure the dye mixture is mixed all together and you don't leave the dye in your hair too long! :)

YES! I went for auburn and it came out flaming orange. It took three more dyes to a brown shade and 6 more months with a blonder shade for it to get back to my normal hair color. I'll never go red from a box again but rather shell out 100 bucks for a pro to do it.

Yes I bought a temporary rinse to cover it up. It helped and when it wore off I could then dye my hair the color I wanted without totally frying my hair.

Yes, but it was just darker in color, nothing drastic.
Keep in mind that I knew I was taking a risk by not having it done professionally.
And I am on 4 different medications which can play a role in how it turns out.....

Yes! I tried to do sandy golden blonde highlights (supposed to be very lowkey against my dark brown hair) and they turned out like bleached blonde! It looked horrible! And my (guy) friend tried to dye his hair blonde and it turned out pink. And he's just not a guy who looks good in pink. It was hilarious!

Thats why i am natural and i still have never died my hair. But if you do then follow the directions corectly. If you want blonde it will tell you how long to leave it in ther and the longer you leave it the lighter it will get and then it will start turning orange.
