It depends on the breed.. usually by age 2 the calm down. Forget what AKC says
Actually the 7 years to a year is not correct..ONE it depends on the breed and size of the dog and TWO, depends on how they are cared for and health issues.. It is more like 10 years..

It depends somewhat on what kind of dog you have. I have labradors, and our youngest is 15 months and just starting to relax. We joke that she is half lab and half mixmaster, because she never stops! The chewing has finally stopped except when she's angry or frustrated (she destroyed a laundry basket last week after our oldest dog had to be put down), and she responds well to about 10 commands. But she still gets very excited about strangers at the door, passing bicycles, and squirrels. And she loves to play.
I have found that a crate is essential although I resisted at first, and Tessa is now in obedience school and top of her class! Be patient - your pup will grow up, and settle down. I think 18 months to one year is about average, but each dog is an individual and so is its owner; therefore, there is no set time.

Depends on the breed of dog. Most calm a bit between 1 yr and 18 months. They calm more when you get them fixed and even more after you train them.

I know this isn't answering your question but I have heard that for the first four years one dog year is seven human years and after that it is one year is equal to four years. So dogs calm down, probably, between three and four years or from twenty one to twenty eight human years, sorta like men.
Seriously, it really does depend mostly on the breed, how they've been trained, the amount of time you spend with them and whether or not they are neutered.

"Puppies" don't calm down! It's not until a dog reaches adulthood that the boundless energy level starts to decline, which is at or around one and a half years old.

Some never do.
I had a chow once, she was actually tolerable as a puppy, but the older she got, the more highstrong she became.

It depends on the breed. With my breed it is 2-3 years, and there is the occasional one that never really does!
