Since the text says, "You shall have no other gods before me," what about after God?

If you continue the passage:

"3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;"

You'll see that worshiping anything else is strictly prohibited. So, no.

If you allow God to be first in your life, then everything and everyone else will fall into their proper place and you will have a better perspective on the value of relationships vs the value of "things". It is the "things" we possess, material and carnal, that we often will place before the things of God. This text refers to a time when there was idol worship and man had turned his affection away from God and God wanting to direct the people back to Him with instruction through the 10 commandments.

People have lots of Gods if you will. They serve many masters.God is saying that you arn`t to serve any God but him.Back even in the new testment its talked about folks serving many Gods for different things. They didn`t serve the one true God.
Indians worshipped the earth and sky and a lot of things with nature. They were one with the earth .But they served the Great Heavenly Father who was the God above all things.

The word "before" in this text means "other then". You shall not have no other gods then Me." It's not before as in past tense.

A better question: Is this an admission that there are other gods????? I never thought about it like that until now, but I have to assume that by "other," there must be !!

Hmm, you are pushing a dangerous idea there. It also says in the Bible to love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your mind.................that wouldn't leave anything for anyone else.

It's kind of an odd rule, when you think about it. If there are no other gods, why would Yahweh say not to worship them??

well....if you truly believe that the bible is truth, you will only believe that there is one true god, and all other gods would be false....so you wouldn't worship other gods (money, status, etc) like the speghetti meatball flying mystery, or whatever people are referring to
