Let's see.... I think my job is fun and pays relatively well... A guy sits right next to me does exactly the same thing and get paid about the same, but he hates every minute of it....

What are you interested in? What are you good at? What kind of job do you dream of getting? or do you even know?

Chances are, you don't know really, what you are interested in and/or good at, at your age.

I'm sure you've heard this before but a really good thing you can do right now is to keep your grades up. People will tell you, you'll never use math when you get out of school, and English is boring.

THAT'S NOT TRUE!

The thinking skill you learn in math, and an ability to communicate will and precisely will become very valuable skill once you get out to the real world. Especially in high-paying jobs, those are pretty much mandantory skills. Now I'm 40 and have been working for 20 years+ (I started early), I can't think of a subject that doens't have some impact.

Another thing is, you can start getting part time jobs in places like offices, and businesses, not at fast food places and restaurants. Look to see what is really going on. Ask your boss if you can try few of the things.

In college, you can get more exposed to professional classes that may spark your interest.

It's good that you are thinking about your future. Keep it up. You'll be great.

By the way, if you get a high-paying job, don't think you are done with schools.... those jobs, you just have to keep learning....

When I was a kid, my dad didn't seem happy in his job; so when I went to college, I decided to get two degrees in a field I was interested in.

Now I can't feed my family. TRUST ME: THIS IS NO FUN!

What I would do if I were you: Research which jobs are predicted to be in demand in the coming decades. Of those, pick the ones that pay at least OK and then try to find out whether you might enjoy any of them. Depending on the country or state/province you live in, you can go to sites like http://www.acinet.org/ to learn all about different careers -- which ones are increasing, which are decreasing, etc.

You're lucky -- there was no Internet when I chose my degrees, and it was a lot harder to get good info; so I didn't know what a mistake I was making.

GOOD LUCK.

There are many careers out there, you just have to know what you want. What type of person are you? Any job can become high paying, it's all about you having to find the right connections. For example.... Hair stylist. You can work at the shop down the street and trim your old high school buddies hair receiving a little over min. wage or you can arrive at Jennifer Lopez's house and style her hair for the day and style her hair for dinner parties while you make plenty. You have to use motivation that is only held within yourself. This is something that only you can find. So figure out what you like to do, even if it's two or more careers; you can do it!

you'll have to research that one. Interesting is a relative term. I find animal training to be interesting, however I have no idea what the pay is. High paying is relative also. I'm a teacher, compared to a brain surgeon I'm poor...well, compared to most people I'm poor, but to the kids I teach who's parents can't make ends meet with two minimum wage jobs, I've got a high paying job.

well there are a lot of high paying jobs, but it is up to you to decide what is fun. your local library will probably have books on salaries for different careers. look in the section around all the educational/college books. you uually cant check these out though so bring a laptop/pen and paper and research jobs you might like.

I would suggest something in science of engineering. Many fields in research in science pay very well (chemistry especially). All fields of engineering pay well also. And both of these fields are very fun to be in.

Also, you might want to consider pharmacist. It's sort of like a doctor, and you have to go to school for 6 years, but you make a boat load when you graduate.

Why does the job have to be "high paying", why not a job you love at any salary?

My suggestion is, do what you love and you won't end up like your parents.

I m only 14 so my guess would be owning a business, magazine editor, writer, it all depends on your interest, just try to search online and take quizzes about careers, it works believe me because I m as well have the same question as you.
