It has nothing to do with being degraded. Spanking is a fun activity when exercised with control. It is a great form of safe sex, close intimate contact but no penetration.
Some people use it as foreplay, others just to spice things up, and others see spanking as a game to be enjoyed outside of sex or a sexual relationship. Some like the age play or role play, others just like a stinging swat on the bottom.

Most people who like to be degraded were sexually abused in their earlier life, like when they were a child or adolescent.
They like the feeling of when they were hurt, no matter how traumatizing it was for them.
