At the bottom end, there are Nordyne that makes about a dozen contractor grade brand names, and Goodman who also makes about a dozen at the lower end of the scale.

Be sure to get a good contractor to install it for you, as installation is just as important as selecting a good units.

Also, larger is NOT better. To right-size the unit, the contractor will have to do what is called a "heat-load calculation" or other wise known as Mode-J calculations. Here, the contractor will measure your room size, orientation, widow size, size of the duct, etc, and arrive at the right size unit.

To small, it won't effectively cool or heat the rooms. To large, it will cycle so fast, it will never reach the long run time that is required to reach the maximum effeciency and de-humidification.
