Just want you to know that dentists DO take charity cases, at their own discretion. One orthodontist that I use offers ME the chance to discount his fee by A THOUSAND DOLLARS once per year to any patient who I tell him is deserving and in need of such a discount. This is very generous on his part, especially when you consider that he probably has 50 or 60 dentists referring patients to him and I assume they all get the same opportunity. His usual fee hovers around $5,000. It was something like $4,800 the last I knew for an 18-24 month (typical) case.

I am in Malaysia, some part of asia. I paid few thousands for the braces and I am 14, I wore them when I was 12, it took me for almost two years for the dentist to take them off and during the process of "bracing", it really hurt, for the teeth, but it's worth it, my teeth are now prefect! Don't worry, nothing is better than prefect teeth!

Well, not only are the materials used for braces expensive, but also your dentist who puts braces is not just a general dentist but a specialist called orthodontist, who has undergone a rigorous training of additional training of 3 more yrs. compared to a general dentist. You are charged for everything...including the level of expertise of your dentist as well as materials used for braces.

Don't kid yourselves. It's not the metal or the polymere plastic that expensive....it's just the guy standing over you who is laughing all the way to the bank. (Did you ever see a dentist take a charity case??? Wouldn't take me)
