I am supposed to go take my BEHIND THE WHEEL test for my liscense at the DMV tomorrow. I live in California, and my test location is in Santa Ana. Well, I know it says you are supposed to bring proof of insurance to your test. I just realized that my car insurance card expired on June 14th. I am with my dad's insurance company (USAA) and he lives out of state. I called him, and he said that they sent him the new insurance card instead of me by accident, and that coincidentally they are supposed to be arriving at my house tomorrow. The problem is, the mail comes in the afternoon and my appointment is at 8:40am! Will they not let me take the test? That doesn't seem fair because the card expired less than a month ago and I am definitely covered...like if they looked it up in a computer it would verify that I'm insured. Do you think they will still let me take the test or not? Thanks.

Step 1: Bring a vehicle for the driving test. The vehicle must have proof of liability insurance, have a valid inspection certificate and pass inspection by the examiner before the driving test is given. Step 2: Follow the examiner's instructions. The examiner will not try to trick you by asking you to do anything that is against the law. Step 3: Control your vehicle safely and as directed by the examiner. You must understand and follow all traffic signs, be able to come to a quick stop without skidding the tires, parallel park and back the vehicle safely approximately 50 feet. Step 4: Observe the other traffic and other conditions around you that might cause problems while you are driving. The examiner needs to see you looking in your mirrors often, watching for other drivers. Step 5: Demonstrate the ability to stay in your lane of traffic. When approaching intersections, slow down and look both ways even if you do not have to stop. Passing and changing lanes are allowed if you can perform the maneuvers safely. Step 6: Show your ability to use turn signals appropriately. Remember to use turn signals as directed in the Texas Driver's Handbook................................

I don't know if they will or not. I live in Georgia and we have to have proof of insurance to get our car tag. When I went in to get it, they let me call my insurance company while I was at the office. USAA could also maybe fax proof of insurance right to the DMV. Call USAA and the DMV first thing in the morning to see if they could do that. Also, if your dad has online access to his policy, maybe you could log on to the policy and print out proof that you are insured.

Take your old card and explain your situation to the people at the test site. They should be able to call your insurance company and verify that you are indeed insured. If not, they are a**holes! Good luck on your test!

No, they won't. You HAVE to show proof.
Can you get the insurance company to fax proof of insurance to the DMV office? They should be willing to do so, and that would serve as proof.
Good Luck ... let us know how it goes!!

No because you have no proof of coverage. Do you not have a fax somewhere that you can get a copy of the card sent to you?
