He told me to switch to a soft toothbrush and brush in circular motion instead of back and forth. Is my tooth going to fall out of my head. What is a soft toothbrush supposed to do. Everytime I touch that spot, it sends an uncomfortable pain thru my tooth.

It's not uncommon to experience tooth sensitvity after having your teeth cleaned. You may have, over time, exposed the layer of tooth called dentin. The plaque and calculus covering the tooth surface may have acted as an insulator and prevented sensitivity most of the time. I would recommend using a toothpaste designed to address sensitivity or ask your dentist to prescribe a flouride gel like GelKam.

A soft toothbrush is much more gentle than a hard-bristle toothbrush which can damage teeth and gums. Try the softer one and some toothpaste for sensitive teeth, like Sensodyne. If it gets better, good! If it persists or gets worse, go back to the dentist or get a second opinion. That can be serious business.

Well,my guess is that you might be brushing a bit too hard and it might be abrading the enamel of your tooth which is the protective layer of tooth .Once the protective layer starts abrading the tooth starts becoming sensitive to cold/hot.That is why your dentist has asked you to switch over to soft toothbrush, and change your style of brushing.

Your tooth wont fall out. A hard tooth brush is sometimes too rough on your teeth. Although it is good to brush 3x a day, if you do it with a hard brush, it could start taking of the enamel.
a softer tooth brush will be easier on you because you obviously brush alot, the nerve will go back to where it belongs, but until then, dont mess with it.
