Our cat is about 15 months old. She is (unfortunately) a mother. She has 5 kittens who are about 5 weeks old now. They are running a bit and playing, still nursing. Mom cat is bugging the crap out of us with her persistant meowing. She has food (wet & dry, both kitten) and water and is free to go outside whenever she needs. Yet she follows us constantly with the same meow.

My guess is maybe she's tired of nursing (they are starting to get teeth, so she may be getting uncomfortable) and is looking for us to provide some sort of kitten food/formula supplement. But I have no idea really. I want the kittens out and I want the Mom gone as they are making the house smell and annoying us all. But the question is, why is Mom cat meowing constantly for what seems like no reason?

Please help!

If the kittens are 5 weeks old they are way overdue for you to introduce them to "real" food. She is probably very sore from nursing for so long. You can try putting Vasoline on her nipples to help her soreness. And at the very least get the kittens some cat milk so they will stop going to her for it. You need to introduce them to some soft food either it be actual soft food or kitten food with some water added. A kitten is suppose to be fully independent by 6 weeks old when it comes to eating and are allowed to be given away/sold at 6 weeks.

She is "unfortunately" a mother? Like this is her fault? She should have been spayed, and kept indoors. For many reasons, not just the getting pregnant thing, cats really shouldn't be allowed to wander around outside anyway.
That aside, the kittens are likely sucking her dry of patience, and you are most likely not paying any attention to her because it's clear from your question/comments that you hate her. Cats are really sensitive to the emotions of their owners.
Mama cat is meowing because she knows you hate her. She is meowing because she's really sorry she's ruined your life, and she's sorry you think she and her babies stink. She is meowing because she just wants to be petted, if even so she can pretend for a little while that her humans might actually like her. She's meowing because, for better or worse, she is YOUR cat, and food and water and being allowed outside won't give her the sense of comfort, love and belonging that only a human being can offer their furry companion. She meows, because despite how you feel about her, she actually loves you.

Unfortunately, it may be too soon to wean the kittens from mama (I had to wait untill my cat was 12wks old b/4 I could take him from his mom). A simple call to a vets office will answer that question for you.

If the smell is bad, try cleaning the litter box more frequently or change the brand of litter.

Good luck.

Sounds like Mom Cat is looking for some attention from you. She obviously is attached and wants pets from you (or something like that). If you are going to give up all the kitties in the future anyway, why don't you just take them down to the Humane Society (Please, a no kill shelter:)) and then you won't have to deal with the meowing?

You seem understandably annoyed with the situation, so maybe your behavior toward the moma cat has changed recently, like less attention, playing or petting. Try giving her some good one-on-one kitty time when she pesters you. You might want to ask your vet about this behavior and also about the weaning issue.

I would be too.
Maybe she wants some quite time and to be pet.
Find the kitties homes soon and maybe start them on some kitten food.

Mote then likely she is going into heat again. Cats go into heat quickly. By letting her out she'll be pregnant again! Get her spayed Now!

She is not spayed and her litter is weaning --- she's most likely in heat again.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get her spayed this week... not next week or next month. Every week my shelter puts down dozens of cats nobody wants and the world doesnt need any more unwanted kitties. Plus spaying will cut down not only on her bad behavior but her cancer risk as well.
