My puppy is 7 months and he has fleas. He is currently on Advantix, but I still find fleas on him but alot less than before. I usually see maybe 1 or 3, but he still scratches alot. I'm assuming he hasn't fully healed from the older flea bites. Is there something that actually repels fleas?? And any advice on ridding them completely. I live out in a country area in Texas so fleas is a problem.
Any suggestions would be great..Thank you!

OK my beagle is allergic to fleas so i hope i can get this some what right OK i was using frontline and my vet told me to switch to avantix because frontline keeps fleas from breeding when they bite your dog were advatix kills i may be coming in and changing this i don't have my box with me but i just wanted to get this down while I remember OK no flea drop will get rid of the fleas 100% sad since i have a dog allergic so i half to use the drop they do help 97% then i use a medicated shampoo, your dog may be allergic dose he scratch so much that he cries? Fleas are such a pesty thing and treating your yard and having advantix or frontline what ever your using is GREAT your one step ahead of the fleas the next thing i wold do is just call your vet and ask he/she may switch you to a different one addvatix may not be for your pet and he/she may switch to frontline but you still may need to use a flea shampoo hartz came out with one that not only kill the fleas but the eggs this works GREAT with the drops and get a flea comb i know their will be others here with great answers to help but i am so happy to hear you are thinking of your dog because fleas can really make your pet uncomfortable.

I don't know how advantix compares to frontline, but I have always used frontline and never had a problem. Frontlines main purpose is to repel fleas and ticks.
You may still find a flea or two after treatment, so don't be suprised, fleas live everywhere including grass. So it stands to reason that the occasional flea may get past you.

Fleas are a tough problem. Squirrels drop eggs in the yards and other creatures. Flea eggs have a cycle which lets them live for about a year without hatching if the weather etc isn't right. The eggs get in your carpet and can wait a year to hatch. In flea country it's just an ongoing problem. Some of these creams help but as of last check nothing completley worked. Get some puppy compatibale flea shampoo, bath him regularily. Treat the yard at least once pre-summer, preferably more and get some spot spary for the house., not advised if you have infants in the home.
Flea remedies are as plentiful as bad fishing lures. If the problem becomes severe consult a pest service.

I don't know about Advantix, but you must get Frontline!!!!
Apply it under his coat right to his skin. Apply it to the back of his neck, in the middle of his back and in the tail area.
Some vets say just to apply the whole tube to one area only, but NO, you must spread it out a bit for maximum effectiveness. (So put it on those 3 areas I mentioned.)
Good luck! I had a flea infestation a few years ago b/c of my dog and it was a nightmare. I suggest you get some Frontline immediately before the situation gets out of hand!

I was using sentinel which combines the flea and heartworm treatments and had no problems. Of course I have a backyard so they are contained, but we take them camping alot (and we're in Central Texas).
You can use a tea tree oil shampoo which is sort of a natural repellant, or other herbal repellant.
It also helps to treat your house and yard (it pays to use an exterminator).
This has been a bad year for fleas or so they say on the news.

Frontline does not repel. Their package even says that they don't. My dog had fleas while on Frontline. I've just bought Advantix because it's supposes to repel. I know Hartz doesn't work either.

first if you live where your puppy is outside you need to treat your yard or nothing much will help. you can safely treat it with lime which you can get at a farm supply for about $4.00 for 50 lbs or it can be bought in a smaller supply. it will take a few days to get the fleas running but they will go and it is safe for your pet. also i have a terrier that is allergic to fleas and if your puppy scratches you may want to speak to your vet about a steroid to stop the itching. also heart guard has a flea and tick and heart worm preventative good luck all in one. and works very well.
good luck

try giving him a bath in sun dish detergent, just don't get it in his eyes. kills them instantly and he will feel much better. make sure you treat you house good before he go back to running around. maybe have someone bath him and another treat the house or wash him and then take him out for a ride while the house is being treated.something like that. sun dish soap will not harm his fur. good to use on kittens too.my granddaughter got a kitten and it was infested with fleas, i did it and they were gone!good luck!
