I really feel like when I die I'm going to burn in hell. I tried the whole Christianity thing, but I just can't believe all the "myths", and have since turned away from the "Christian" God. I used to pray, but nothing happened so I just gave up praying and eventually my faith withered. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can stop feeling cursed and damned? After 20 years of God failing to answer my prayers, I've given up.

In response to a lot of the "read the Bible" answers....I did read the Bible..I set a certain time everyday that I read and went to Church everyday Sunday, but the Bible just never spoke to me. I honestly tried to listen and read it with an open heart, but something wasn't connecting. I eventually read it less and less, and have stopped going to Church because I don't connect with what's being said. I have tried to read the Bible, talk to pastors, and pray, but nothing is working. I still feel lost and honestly don't think I ever experienced the "Holy Spirit" at all. I can't continue to read the Bible if it doesn't speak to me.
And please don't tell me to pray for understanding and wisdom, because I have prayed for it desperately but to no avail.

We tend to give up on God but God never gives up on us. WE ask for things that are not good for us and then when we get an answer of no, we think God is not listening. Sometimes you will get the answer yes, but sometimes the answer is no or wait. Do you think maybe you could have been a bit impatient and not wanted to wait? I have prayed for 30 years for something before the prayer was actually realized. Think of the Israelites in Babylon. They waited for many years and then was delivered or the ones that was taken out of Egypt. Because of their stubbornness, they had to die in the desert rather than see the promised land. Go back to praying and ask God for strength and courage to find the way back. Read your bible and the feeling will pass. If you turn away, you are headed for Hell and God knows that so He is giving you that chance to come back and learn to trust in Him. He wants you in Heaven. Think of this story that is so like yours. A rich merchant had a camel train go to sell his goods at the city and he did not trust the camel bearers so went with them across the desert to guard his wares and gold. In the middle of the desert he got separated from the group and finally stopped and got off the camel to stretch his legs and see if he could figure out where he was. He was not accustomed to the desert and his camel wandered off and he was all alone with no water. He began walking and found dune after dune and finally sat down and decided he could go no further. So he took out a paper and pencil and wrote his wife a letter as well as his daughter and told them he was sorry but he could just not go any furhter and that when someone found his bones, maybe they would get the letters. A few weeks later someone did find his body. It was about a hundred yards from an oasis that had lots of water and shade and all he would have had to do was get over that one last dune and he would have lived. You are in that mans place. Don't quit now. That is what Satan wants you to do. Go that last few steps to life and you will be so glad you did. Pray and read your bible and I know a lot of folk will pray for you too. Looking in from the outside, it seems that you have slowly drifted away. You once believed strongly it seems, but soon lost your faith, and a little bit of the Kingdom of God still resides in you. Jesus says that people people will hear by different ways, and some will believe just for awhile until the Devil takes the word away. But yet, I believe something on the inside is telling your to regain your faith, that you have made the wrong move in turning away Jesus. Don't fall into these traps that the devil sets.
Don't just pray, READ THE BIBLE. It is very important. If you do not read the words of God and Jesus, you will surely not understand. Not once did in your question did you mention yourself seeking the Bible. Seek and you shall find.

You don't try the "whole christianity thing",if you were born again it would be flowing from you .you don't have to force it into you .You
would never walk away just because God doesn't grant your every wish.If your "faith" was based on getting prayers answered when and how you wanted, then you probably had no relationship with God at all. It's a relationship not a religion.but unless you are born again you cannot see the kingdom of God.Those that tell you about all the "myths" are just trying to turn you from God.Give the Lord your heart, mean it,and he will never leave you. Then just have faith, for without faith it is impossible to please God.The "christian" God is the only one there is,all the others are man made religion. And will lead to destruction,no matter how nice they may appear.Sounds like you bought into christianity not God.Religion doesn't save you, only faith can do that.

Honestly I feel your pain. I went through a very similar experience when I left Christianity. I was afraid that by changing religion That God was going to send me to Hell. It's a slow process but your going to need to deprogram yourself. I personally said a formal Goodbye to the Christian Concept of God. I said "Sorry I tried this Religion of yours it's not working out." I know others who have helped themselves, by going to atheist and Humanist websites. Also Sometimes going to a liberal church Like the Unitarian Universalism's as a nice step down process is a good idea. Also you should try to redefine "God" to a degree. Ignore what the Bible and other Christians say about who "God" is and What He thinks. Try and answer that question yourself first. After many trials and Tribulations and a complete change in religion (I'm wiccan now.) I've found a peace when the christian concept of God and it's this. If God is truly all loving and all forgiving than no one goes to Hell. I don't know if this helped any. I'm trying to keep the answer short, but you may want to try the website below.

It is quite possible that you are taking things in faith far too much at face value and that may be your reason for such doubts. Many things in the bible are parables, metaphors, and hidden messages. People in those days spoke and wrote in poetry not like how blunt man is today. I recommend give Christ/God another try, but this time seek for a different meaning that makes sense to you. I believe from my perspective that God would want this for you. If not through Christ seek God in another form or faith I believe they are all just different perspectives of the same goal. And do not feel as you are going to hell don't worry about that instead do all you can to make it to heaven even if not through faith through your everyday actions do upon others like you think Christ might even if you do not believe in him. It will make you feel better and you may find the link to heaven that you have been looking for by means of yourself. At least this is what i believe hoped it helped.

God is not answering your prayers because there is no God. The cemeteries are filled with children whose parents prayed for their recovery—what good did it do them? There they lie, as dead as if they’d never been prayed for. Every religion is filled with myths, fables, folklore, hero tales, and impossible miracles, all of which you are expected to believe with the gullibility of a toddler. Why do you think you need any of that? That feeling of being “cursed and damned” comes from years of brainwashing by religious people who have convinced you that you are not worth dog crap unless you bow down to their imaginary skydaddy. It’s about time you realized that you are a good, worthy human being in your own right!
Wow, just look at all the people saying you should read your Bible and pray, after you said that you cannot believe the myths of the Bible and prayer has done no good! Do you see what they're doing? They are telling you to repeat the same behavior, over and over and over, even though it doesn't work. It has never worked for them, either, they simply have overactive imaginations and attribute everything to God. Repetition of fruitless behavior is a sign of mental illness. Does that tell you something about religion?

God answers prayers. If you have faith and do as God has instructed you there is no fear of burning in hell. Choose ye this day who you will serve. God's ways are not our ways. Follow His will for your life. Seek a good Bible believing church and you will find you failed in your attempt at Christianity and that God did not fail you. Bless you.

Praying is not just about talking to God; you also need to listen. God is speaking to you 24/7 but you are not listening when you are so busy asking and talking. Quiet your mind and listen for the small still voice of God. Give it enough time and you will hear it.
Hell is a fantasy someone has convinced you is real, it is not. God is only love. God judges nothing. Forget this silly idea of hell, and a judgmental God.

You allowed the devil to get the victory. Deep down inside you know that God is real and he has never left you, that's why you asked this question. Who woke you up this morning? Did satan wake you up? Why do you find it easy to believe in satan and hard to believe in God. You left God, he did'nt leave you. Repent, call on Jesus and he will exalt you in due time. Remember, it's in God's own time, not yours. He will never leave you are forsake you.

The Devil only goes after the ones who he fears he will lose - if you were so far from God like you think you are - you wouldn't be pondering this - you still have faith - you just need to build on it
