A lot of good answers that are on track.....but I will still add mine. The best method I have seen is to do something similar to the Body-for-Life book by Bill Phillips.

1) Eat right. 5-6 meals a day. Each meal should include a good protein and a good carbohydrate. 2-3 of your meals can contain a vegetable.

2) Exercise. The book tells you exactly how to lift weights on M,W,F (45mins a day) and to do cardio on T,TH,S (20mins) You get Sunday off.

3) Motivation. You have to really want it. You have to find your reason. No one can give it to you.

Steps 1 and 2 combined are like magic. The fat melts off, allowing you to see the abs you have been building with all those crunches. You can not target the fat on your body. Different people hold or store the fat in different places. You can not, for example, get rid of all the fat on your arms by lifting with your upper body, while keeping all the fat in your legs.

Well, there's always liposuction. But would you risk a serious injury, to get the chance to lie in bed for a few weeks recovering, missing work and putting your life on hold, getting weaker every week? I would rather get all the benefits of eating right and exercising.

You MUST eat heathy and do a cardio workout 4 times a week for at least 20-30 mins. I don't know if that's the quickest...but it's the best way to do it. You can do sit ups but you wont be able to see the muscles that will develop until the belly fat is gone. A good cardio workout is the way to go...I promise.

Here is what you need to do, if you are serious about losing weight and keeping it off. Eat 6 small meals a day about every 4 hours. Here what that will do for you, your metabolism will increase (i.e. Loose weight) and you will have more engry. If you go on a diet and eat less, your metabolism will slow down and store to fat. That is why diets dont work. Only the size of your fist, carbs (examples:baked potato, pasta, oatmeal, beans, corn, melon, apples, fat free yogurt, whole wheat breads)in one and protien (examples:chicken breast, swordfish, shrimp, turkey breast) in the other. You can also eat vegetables and salads with any meal, they dont have none or little fat). 30min cardo exercise every day. Any of these(examples: walking, jogging, swimming,running, biking, ect), Monday cardo, tues upper body (arms: curls, tricep extensions,pull ups, front press)(abdominals: leg pull crunch, leg raises), (chest: bench press, butterfly, pullover)(shoulders: front press, arm pullover, cross county skier machine)(back:seated row, lat pull downs, back extension)(YOU DONT HAVE TO DO IN ONE DAY, mix it up) wed cardo, thurs lower body (legs: leg pull,leg press, squats, lounges) fri cardo, sat upper. Sunday eat anything you want and dont exercising, you do this on sunday so your body doesnt go into starvation mode. YOU NEED TO TAKE SUNDAY OFF. If you stilck with this you will have a great body. also drink aleast 8oz of water daily! Stay away from Mcdonals, Wendys, ect because there is nothing good for you on the menu's even the salads are bad (beaon bits, cheeze, dressing, ect) Good Luck :)

I just read an article that says weight training is the best way to lose belly fat. It studied women in their forties and said that weightlifting is far and away the best way to go. Plus, if it looks good or tastes good, don't eat it!!!
