As a soldier who has been deployed, I can say that many soldiers hate this "I support the troops, but not the war." line. Personally, I feel that the people who came up with it were trying to make their political views more palatable, and everyone else just regurgitates it, without really thinking about what they are saying. The fact is, wanting our troops to come home early and fail their mission is not support. I didn't feel supported by the anti-war crowd when I was in Iraq.

The Dem's support the troops, but not the mission. They do get aggressive when it comes to equipment issues such as the ballistic inserts and up-armored vehicles, but they do not, at least as a whole, support the successful completion of the mission in Iraq. It is possible that much of this "support" is soley for political gain, but there are many former service members in the party making that far from an absolute assumption. It is hard to see how you can really support the troops without supporting the mission they are undertaking as well, since making sure they have the right equipment is a responsibility of our elected officials, not an option. It might be more accurate for them to say that they do not support the troops whole heartedly, but that they have the utmost respect for them never the less.

You can be a Soldier and Democratic, a few of the best soldiers I've known are avid Democrats. This coming from living with my father who was in the military for 21 years and did three tours in Iraq both conflicts. I support the troops whole heartedly but I dislike Bush immensely for every one thing he does right he screws up 38 other things. He's not the worse president ever but he's up there.

i'm a Democrat. i don't believe we are any more advantageous than republicans are. the lengthy island situations has been attacked for being a liberal e book that discloses assistance(in holding with leaks) that the administration does not want made public. there's a superb line between nationwide protection and the widely used public's accurate and favor to carry close. i imagine the anti situations facet is overblown. the widely used public desires to carry close what is going on in Iraq and elsewhere. How can we make smart judgements if we are kept interior the darkish. Democrats want civil rights secure even as we salary a warfare on terror(A warfare endlessly. there'll continually be terrorists), even as conservatives tend to be keen to droop particular civil rights for the sake perceived protection. Pulling out of Iraq is a Hobson's determination. we would want to continually not in any respect have gone there interior the first position, yet now that we are there we've committed too a lot of our status to tug out without dropping face and respect. The Bush administration has painted us right into a nook, not the Democrats. that is to the great thing about the terrorists.

They don't. If you haven't figured it out by now, politics is all talk and very little action, and saying that they support the troops when they really just want them out of Iraq is not the worst thing Democrats are doing.

What have you done? Is hoping they stay safe support? Do you have to like Bush to support them? Can I support the volunteers that put their lifes on the line for freedom without liking the Commander that puts them in harms way under false pretenses? Are WMD's made in the 80's and hidden in the 90's a good reason to ship troops off to war in 2003?

I'm a democrat. My sister was in the Air Force. My dad is a Vietnam vet and spent his lifetime in the army national guard. I have a friend in Iraq who is in my thoughts constantly.
If you tell me that I don't support the troops or that I am not praying for my friend or his friends or all the mothers and fathers and sons and daughters over there, then you are a very, very narrowminded person.

Your right. The only thing democrats do the the troops is take away their funding, and ***** if they get a pay raise. Which by the way the US military is the most underpaid in the country for what each of them do.

Most who've actually served are Democrats or become Democrats. That's why Congress and state governments are filled with Democrats who are former military, while most Republicans have to pretend that they didn't get deferments or have their Daddies get them a safer position protecting Texas or some other place far from the war zone.

A lot of them are fighting in our military, and all of them are supporting their troops by maintaining the American way of life: speaking freely, criticizing and questioning our government, and paying our taxes. Meanwhile, the GOP's leadership sends our troops into harm's way without real justification, on manipulated intelligence, without significant allies, without adeqate armor or bulletproof vests, and with unrealistic expectations of how they would be received. If you honestly think of that as supporting the troops, you love your party, not your country. Believe it or not, there is a difference between the two.
