it's legal but I don't agree with it. everybody else who does obviously hasn't been locked up. yeah you do the crime you do the time yeah yeah yeah ok but that doesn't take away your right to be treated with personal human dignity. if they don't wanna pay us to get some damn money on our books they better start provinding us with something better than some damn bob barker!

I am not sure if it's legal, but alot of things that go in prison are not right and it still happens. My fiancee is doing time and I completley agree that if you do the crime there should be consequences, but alot of prisons just treat inmates like they are not people, they are just a number in the system. And all you people who had all of those rude answers are very insensitive. People make mistakes, everyone does, but that doesn't mean that everyone in prison should be put through the hell that alot of prisons put them through. They are people and they are doing their time. Everything is taken away from them, they have basically no life. They hardley have any freedom oustside. They are told when to sleep and eat. They have no privacy at all. Where my fiancee is they have dorms, not cells and you can see everything from your bunk. It is basically a big shed. They have monitered visits with loved ones. You can NEVER have a private conversation, everything is monitered, visits, letters, phone calls. Once they become trustees they are given jobs and they suppossed to be paid, but very very little, and it should help lesson their time. Now I know some inmates get hard labor in prsion, which then I think (but not sure) they do not have to pay them because it is in their sentence. Sorry I tried to answer your question, but I kind of got a little carried away because of some of the mean comments that were said and this is a very sensitive subject for me.

Yes, yes, and hell yes. They are contributing towards their stay at the prison, why should they get paid for it? No one forces criminals to break the law, it was their choice. So they also have to be prepared to pay the consequences. And no, jails don't have to pay inmates anything for their labor. My brother was in jail for 10 years and he didn't get paid anything to do assigned jobs. Family had to send him money so he could buy things for himself. Plus, they get fed 2 or 3 times a day so anything from the commissary would be considered extra which the state doesn't have to pay for.

Its our choice to commit a crime.Do you also want to pick what jail you go to?Be thankfull you can work in jail what would you do if they kept you locked in for 23 hours?
Save some of the money you steal to pay big bob off so he wont slip you the salami.

not sure how that jail works but at the county jail i work at trustees (inmate workers) has the choice to work or not. by being a trustee, the inmate will get 2 for 1 for their time and larger portions on their meal trays

i dont know any jails that pay for people to work in kitchen etc. most jails have trustees... that get to move around jail and work... but you may be getting jail mixed up with prison. in prison inmates use to make in ohio 24 dollars up.. it depends on what the job is. but in jail..you work for free.. on a voluntary basis.

Our inmates do KP at our facility with no pay. They do get to work volunteer hours for other priviledges though but not pay. There is nothing wrong with it and the inmates dont complain.

You know, you complain about working in the Kitchen. If you had not commitet a crime you would not be in there, So, Stop your whining. Why should you get paid for that work; do you pay for the food you eat in there or pay a Dr. or Dentist bill; or for your Lodging? GET REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Working the kitchen is a trustee position. It takes time off your sentence but is not required.
