Is it positive or negative? Has it changed since we went to Iraq and Afganistan?

To all of you who thank the military for its actions, Thank You! (I am a Navy aviator on the USS Nimitz)

Best Guy, you seem to be racist against servicemen, ignorant about the military. Look at yourself before criticizing others!

I respect the military so much. I t truly brings tears to my eyes to see patriotic men and women willing to die for the freedoms we enjoy in our country! God bless them! If anything it has gotten more positive since Iraq and Afghanistan, because I've gotten older.

I'm currently in the Navy and have a varied opinion on this one....

First, I don't see any other volunteer armed forces in the world that come close to what we do and the way we do it. We're unequaled. It's that simple.

On the other hand, I think we are still a force that is in a World War II/ Cold War mentality and have not made the full jump to a tighter, smaller, smarter way of waging war. There are countries that are not quite technologically proficient as we are that would still kick our butts in a war (China comes to mind) if they wanted to based solely on tactics and capabilities. The Jihadists have already proven what you can do with a few IED's. Countries like China don't need Aircraft Carriers or M-1 Tanks if they have sunburn missiles and tactical nukes.

Don't get me wrong. I think in a prolonged conventional conflict, we win. It's just that conflict is neither conventional or prolonged anymore. It's short and to the point, and people don't fight fair.

I slapped a good article on here you might find interesting....

The U.S. military is the most professional group you will find anywhere in the world. You simply can't believe the media on all the reporting of unprofessional ism. We don't gas our own, or chop heads off, We don't fight in civilian cloths, or perform any number of the atrocities that others around the world do. Yes we are killing civilians, sometimes troops make bad mistakes but that's because we are fighting civilians not a military. Taking pictures of naked men on the floor is far far from torture. These attacks on U.S. Soldiers from the U.S media are pathetic. I wish the citizens of the U.S. truly understood what's going on. Thank God for the U. S. military.

Sadly best guy does not know what he/she/it is talking about!
The U.S. military is the best in the world. However like any other working force there are a few bad apples.
Having served in the military there was some racist in it but they were few and far between.
My respece continues to grow for those that serve in the military.

It's a great service. However, sometimes the politicians use our military for things it wasn't designed for, such as policing. As long as the military was doing military jobs, they did an incredible job. They're not trained as a police force, so it's more difficult now.

Military is designed for war, not for policing. Let's get out and let the Iraqis police their own nation.

As Army public affairs, my opinion of the most professional, most respected organization on Earth is very positive. And for other military members answering questions on Yahoo: UCMJ still applies, be truthful, be professional, stay out of politics.

Unchanged.

Of course I have been in for 25 years and knew just how good our people are for decades.

I just wish I could have the same amount of faith in the American people.
