Maturity and ability to love and support a child is more important than age.

I am 37 and newly pregnant with my 2nd child. I have a 6-year-old I had when I was 30. I would have liked to have a child earlier, but I really think that whatever age you decided to have a child, your coping and nurturing skills should be in check.

I didn't know what to expect with my first, and I was 30. That didn't have to do with age. I did great.

Some may be ready at 21. Others? Never.

Many people should get a licence to have children......but that is another story.

Personally, I can't imagine going past 40 with a new child.
I want more time for myself by my mid-50s. That's my reasoning.

And to the comment about not having enough energy at 40?
Well, maybe I'm special, because I have a LOT of energy.
Though, I see what you mean. Generally the sluggish people in my age group are the ones who never stopped partying and smoked too much. So, if you want to have 40 work for you, check yourself now!

Anyway, don't be ageist. It's unbecoming. And, you'll be older a lot longer than you are young!

I'm kind of torn on this issue personally. There are more risks to having a baby after a certain age, to both the child and the mom. There are also the issues that the older the parents are, the less time they will actualy have to spend with the child. I don't know if there is nessarily an age that is too old, but I think the older you get the more you have to consider.

I guess as long as you really want a child, and your dr thinks you are healthy and able to carry a child, and you are able to support and care for the child, it could be alright.

Personally--and speaking as a mother of two--I think the cutoff age should be 35! At 40, too many factors come into play regarding the health of the baby. After 40, I believe women should adopt.

I htink that 40 is a good cut off date. Because when you are a closer age to your child, you can understand them better. But some wait to have kids after 40 because they want to have their finances settled, I am not sure which is the best option as I am 17 and have not had any children yet

I had my daughter when I was 41. She is now 16.
we have a wonderful relationship. but I am not sure that you should be much older than I was. I try to keep up with her and what's happening now, so we can talk bout things. so if someone was to REALLY put an age on this , I would say not after 45.
my opinion only.
p.s. she is a beautiful perfectly healthy girl! always has been

If you can handle having a child after 40, go for it, it's no one business to be telling you can't (other than your doctor and that's only if there's medical reasons). There's perk to having older.... you're more responsible, more financially stable but you'll be many generations away from your child and will probaby have a harder time relating to them. In the end the decision is most certainly up to you... and you significant other.

The older a woman is when she has kids, the more likely there will be complications. A woman can lose th weight easier and tends to ahve fewer personal health problems and problems giving birth when she is over 18 (full grown) but under 45.

I am 40 , I have a 7 yr. old and have custody of my 5 yr. old grandson. Any adult that feels ready for a child and that is responsible should have kids. Age has not much to do with it. I have seen different aged women with children and it all depends on their maturity. If you have the enegy and want it, do it.

My mom just had a baby at the age of 36. She had to get all these special tests done because of her age and the increased health risks. If that is the case at 36, imagine when you are older. I don't think it's fair to the child to increase their health risks.

well the older the woman is, the higher the risk of genetic birth defects - so... probably not a good idea after 40!
