I have seen that Mexicana states in their advertising that they have the most modern planes? How does Mexicana reach that conclusion? Can it be backed up by any source? I know they fly a out of those Airbus 320, is that why? Serious answers only please!

While they don't necessarily have the "most modern" or youngest fleet in the sky, their averaged aircraft age is 8.3 years so they can claim that as "Modern", especially compared to other carriers.

Type / Number in fleet / Age of aircraft

Airbus A318 10 1.2 years
Airbus A319 16 3.6 years
Airbus A320 28 12.9 years
Boeing 757 5 8.9 years
Boeing 767 1 16.8 years
Fokker 100 1 14.2 years

By comparision, Ryanair claims the Youngest Fleet in the World at an average age of 2.5 years

BTW, for you other posters-
Singapore averages 6.4 years, Continental 8.7, and Lufthansa 11.5 with their oldest aircraft being 21 years & 2 months- not 8 years.

I think a lot of different airlines say they have the most modern fleet. I am not sure if they are comparing themselves only to their competitors in the region or if they mean globally. But a lot of airlines use that as a marketing point in getting more passengers to fly with them.

Personally I think Singapore Airlines has one of the most modern fleets of aircraft. They are always buying the newest aircraft that are offered by Boeing and Airbus.

no the airline with the best safety record and the newest fleet is the German air carrier Lufthansa with the oldest plane around 8 years old then they sell them to other airlines. and they are the only carrier that would allow my wife and i to put both of our small dogs in one doggy carrier so they would not be scared.

They say that because they operate the Boeing 777 which is the most technologically advanced aircraft flying commercially these days!
