I have heard many people on Answers say that technology will save us, as if technology in itself is some miraculous new fuel source that we can exploit when oil runs out. Energy is not the same thing as technology, so what's the deal?

I think they are using a short hand way of saying: "a new energy generation technology will save us".

In the early 70's the first main frame programs for accountant spread sheets appeared. This did not end accounting, they just demanded more from accounting.

We have enough energy to fill all our needs. If we find a new source of energy that is cheaper and more plentiful, we will use more energy and demand even more energy to use.

Most people do not recognize these problems are political and not technological problems. This includes world hunger, war, poverty, etc. It is a problem of the mind and not a technological problem.

Exactly, advances in technology will allow us to discover alternate sources of energy. And for the record, hydrogen is not an energy source, it is merely an energy carrier.

You're right...energy and technology are not the same things, but I can't think of any technology that doesn't require energy.

Technology helps create new sources of energy. Hydrogen, Better turbines for hydro and wind.

Technology like new gadgets or machines will save us. Like, back then they didn't have CT Scans or X-Rays, so they didn't know what was wrong with people. Now, we do, so we're better of then before. I don't think they necessarily mean that technology will provide us with life. It's hard to explain.
