Talk to a teacher or counselor at your schoo. they are required by law to help you. Getting emancipated at your age would be impossible, and very difficualt for you since you are too young to work, drive, or do much of anything you need to do to survive in the real world. Talk to someone at school, and tell them your situation and how badly you need to get away from your step dad. Best of luck!

In the State of WI, I think you have to be 17. But you should check your locate state's laws on that, I'm sure they are all different. Maybe there is a family member or a friend you can stay with? I remember what it was like to be 13, it's definately a hard age where you feel no one understands you and 18 seems light years away. I hung out w/friends and stayed out of the house, until I HAD to come home. I'm sure your mom would miss you. Maybe there are other things going on that you should talk to someone about?

You can not get emancipated untill you are 17 in America. You could stay with friends a lot (if it's OK with your mom) in order to be away from your step dad. Friends are not obligated to care for you though and may tire of your mooching. If you can not possibly think of anyway to get along with or avoid him for the next few years though you could run away and become homeless and sleep in a dumpster and eat scraps and weat rags and push a stole shopping cart down the freeway freeway while incesantly screaming obsenities...... Just stick it out kid. Don't wind up like that scenario. Do get a job and save money though so you will not have it too rough when you can legally move out.

I have a 13 yr old too, no I dont believe you can be emancipated. Where would you live? You are not even old enough to get a job. Why don't you try talking to your mom about this or your biological father or grandparent? Sometimes things seem better in a day or too. Good Luck to you and try prayer. Remember this isn't where you will live forever!

I wanted emancipated at 13, too. In my state, the age is sixteen for emancipation. I kept thinking that at the minute I turned sixteen, I was out the door. But in those three years, my mind changed. I am still sticking it out at seventeen. I still can't stand my mother. But I've learned to deal with her over the years by talking to my older brother and Dad about her, and ended up understanding her as a person a lot better. Talk to your mom about your stepdad. Get to know more about him, and maybe you'll learn why you can't stand him, and hopefully, how to deal with it.

I love how everyone says talk to a teacher, that can be good if you really hate your whole family and they treat you like absolute dirt (in an illegal way). Mostly, talking to a teacher means immediate social services action if there is any suspicion of illegal activity in a domestic setting. But think, isn't there anyone you love in your family? Anyone you wouldn't give up even if it meant your complete and total freedom from the stepdad you can't stand? Your Mom? Grandma? Cousin?

Think about it. I know you're gonna hear a whole lot of this "Suck it up and stick it out" stuff. I'll tell you, I got sick of hearing it too. These people had never met my mother. But, I listened, and it made me a better person for listening. Instead of running away from my problem, I can now stare it in the face (literally) and speak to it on an adult level. She's even become a friend of sorts. The annoying kind of friend that you'd like to slap on occasion, but a friend nonetheless.

no. not until you are 14. I did right when I turned 14. you have to prove you can live on your own. It's a big step to take. For me it was the end of me talking to my family. I am now 35 and it has been 21 years since I have talked to them. It is some thing I some times miss, but in the end have no regrets.

No you cannot get emancipated at 13. To get emmancipated you must be working and able to support yourself with no adult help. If its truly this bad, talk to a teacher or call social services. They will probably find you a wonderful foster home. There are plenty out there who would be glad to give you a good life.

I'd be REAL surprised, because that's a lot younger than any age I've heard of with respect to emancipation.
