About 2 hours ago, I woke up to my dog (laborador retreaver) favoring his right side, seeming unsteady, sometimes walking in circles. However, he's very responsive. Eating, using the bathroom, following commands, wagging his tail. Any idea as to what this is? Is it an emergency?

Did he get into anything unusual? I would monitor him throughout the night and if there is no improvement be sure to get him to a vet. I don't want to scare you, but a guy I work with has 2 golden retrievers and they both came down with a stomach virus. He took them to the vet and the vet said they should be fine. His older dog the 12 year old died in the middle of the night. The other dog got over the virus. I doubt your dog is experiencing this, but just beware that there seems to be some flu going around and be sure to get your dog to a vet immediately if stops eatting or seems to have a stomach virus. I will keep you both in my prayers. I am sure he will be fine. I would just baby him for the night and take him to the vet in the morning if he is not better. Best of luck!

You do need to contact a vet, but this sounds suspiciously like an ear problem to me. Especially since he is being very alert. Ear infections can cause this sort of behavior sometimes. Check his ear. If it is black and slimy, or foul-smelling, you have likely found your culprit. Definitely take him to the vet anyway, as this is quite serious, and he will need medicated ear drops right away. If his ear is clean, then worry about stroke and other illnesses.

Best of luck to you!

It sounds like your dog may have had a stroke...or injured himself while you were sleeping causing possible nerve damage. You really should get him to a vet ASAP because you will have a better outcome if the problem is addressed as early as possible.

It could be a midde/inner ear infection, or the signs of something more serious (i.e., brain inflamation, poisoning, cancer). There really is no simple way to tell. Promptly take the animal to the vet.

If he is an old dog I would suspect a stroke. If a younger one I would suspect an ear infection . Or ear trouble of the sort. .. Call the vet

poor baby,
It's so hard to know when they can't talk to you.
but anything can happen to them that can happen to you. It could be a number of things. I would definatley take it to a vet. She depends on you for her well being.
My 10 year old hound -mix just had a lump removed from her breast and they just called to say that it WAS cancer. she's o.k. for now because they got it all. but we have to watch for new lumps.
I wish the best for your lab!

Sounds like a possible inner ear infection or neurological injury. You will need to take him to a vet.

Does your dog go outside unsupervised? It is possible he was hit by a car if he does. It could be head trauma.
Whatever it is you need to have a vet see him asap.
