Yes it hurts really bad. If it didn't hurt men would be able to do it! It feels like there is a vice around your middle section and about every two minutes this vice is closed about 1 and a half times more then it is really suppose to close, and to top that off you generally got someone who loves you so much and is trying to be so helpful at your side patting your hand telling you that it is aright and that it is almost over and how well you are doing. And that is the one person that you really want to beat the heii out of, and tell them to shut the heii up, that you know when it is almost over and that if you really wanted a play by play analysis of the labor that you would have Marv Albert in there with you. That is how it feels.

I hope you are understanding the above answers! You sound very young and I hope not pregnant. Yes, it hurts but you can control how bad through breathing and self control if you try. You really do forget the labor as soon as the baby is born! If you are unlucky as I was, there are definitely some parts that you won't forget though! I was 16 (103 lbs), hurriedly married, and then we moved to N. Mex. when I was 8 mo. The dr. said he couldn't do an x-ray because of radiation being heavy in the area. So I didn't know about the size until it was too late. I had reg labor, went to the hosp.when I was supposed to, stayed overnight after being prepped and shaved, went home the next morning, continued the labor for 2 wks- every hr,started hard and fast labor and walked for hrs. and went back to the hosp when the pains were 3 min apart "again", had HARD labor for 24 hrs more, I finally got into the delivery room and the dr. said I was having a small baby and then he delivered my big boy!! He was 9 lbs, short and had the bone structure and HEAD of a10-12 lb baby. I was torn so badly that the dr said he quit counting at 100 stitches! I was very weak for weeks, felt like my female parts were falling out when I stood, and had lots of problems until my son was about 18 mo. The dr. said that I shouldn't have had that baby, duh! I didn't try again for 6 yrs. Be careful not to get preg. until you are ready and then choose a good dr.

I hate to say it, but it really depends on the woman. I felt like I had bad cramps up until I was 8 cm dialated. Then the pain became very intense until I delivered. My deliveries were quick, so it wasn't truly horrible. Some women experience a lot of pain from very early on in labor and choose to have pain relief.

It's more traumatizing than it is painful. But if everything in your life is stable and good at the time of your birth, then it may not even be traumatizing for you. Of course if you don't get meds it'll be both. However, post-pregnancy could be more painful for you than labour. Perhaps that is the consequence of having heavy drugs during labor. One word of advice: avoid an episiotomy if you can. I was heavily drugged, and as the baby was coming out, the Doc reached for her scissors (i was scared of this) and i passionately objected, and she dropped them! I ripped of course, but when i went for my 6 week check-up, the Doc told me that i healed much better than if i would've had an episiotomy. And later i read in the newspaper that the medical board is considering doing away with episiotomies entirely! Because they've seen little indicating that episiotomies are neccessary or beneficial.

Labor is different for all. Some say they have very little pain while others,I`m one,say that the pain is awful. The first child is the worst. You can get a shot that will kill all pain after you have dialated enough.I had natural child birth the first time.I was in labor fro 5 in the mor. till 8 that night.Contractions just minutes apart. The second time I was in hard labor 1 hour and they give me a shot.

Yes it feels like you are about to spit a watermellow out, but if you go ahead and bear the pain you will be better off than letting them do a C-Section like so many doctors are doing. If you can have it the normal way do it the pain is not that long that you cannot bear it. My mom used to say having a baby was like deeath, but for some dern reason she had five of us so it must have not been all that bad. And she had all of us at home but one. It wasn't half as bed as i thought it was going to be, but then I wanted to see the little fellow that had been hidden for nine months!

I had Lamaze and recommend it. Yes, labor does hurt, but ask/demand a pain shot when you are dilated enough. My husband still has scars on his arm from my fingernails during contractions. Is it worth it, definitely.

You get anesthesia so you will not fell anything, if you are going on labor without it it will hurt because your bones will strech you to the maximun level to allow the baby to come out.... that is why you gotta be prepared

It is probably the worst pain you will ever go through voluntarily (more than once sometimes) and totally forget the pain the instant your baby is in your arms.
