I'm not sure what they have out there these days, but all the plastic surfaces are "warmer" than marble.

A counter (or floor) feels cold when the substance it is made from conducts heat readily away from the body. Metals are terrific conductors of heat. Marble and stone are pretty good conductors, which makes them feel cold. Plastics tend to be heat insulators, as is wood. Thus they feel warmer.

Your cat "Said" that?

Wow. Awesome.

There are other options (like marble) but if you are looking for high quality countertops, they are inevitably going to be cold for your kitty. See, the better the quality of the counter, the harder the countertop and the quicker the counter can transmit heat(or lack thereof) to you, your food... or your cat.

Cheers:)

Butcher Block
Made of hardwood, usually maple, butcher block is very warm and attractive.
Pros: Butcher block is easy to install, and if it gets badly nicked or scratched, it can be repaired easily by sanding and resealing.
Cons: Butcher block burns, scratches, and dents easily. It needs to be treated regularly with mineral oil or wax, or to be sealed with a polyurethane sealer. The joint between countertop and backsplash must be caulked to prevent seepage. Butcher block is moderately expensive.

Other possible surfaces are described at the site listed below.

All these people, telling you to get Kitty off the countertops...how silly! How else is she going to reach the sink?

P.S. Ted Armentrout is exactly right, have been considering the same myself...extremely nice surface, particularly if your house has a lot of antiques, as mine does.

Why is your cat sitting on the countertop anyways? That's not sanitary. I think that you should get your cat a kitty-bed to sit in, which should be nice and warm.

first take kitty off your FOOD PREP AREAS, and invest in a counter top that is to your liking. Keep in mind granite is porous and when you kitty sits on it, bathroom breaks or whatever, all that will seep into the counter. Nice when little Joey sets down his cookie in the same area huh.

Don't let your cat get on the counter tops,it's not sanitary either. Tell kitty to bad and get the granite.
