i dont know about holliester...
but abercrombie&fitch is racist...

look at this article...

6o Minutes ran a piece last Sunday about institutionalized racism at Abercrombie and Fitch that really irked me. Several former employees have filed a class action suit alleging widespread, institutional racism in hiring practices at the clothing company. The employees, all minorities, have alleged that Abercrombie and Fitch prefer a sales force that more closely resembles the models showcasing their clothing in their catalogues, billboards, and television commercials. So what? How do we now make the leap to “institutional racist hiring practices”? I would dare say that if I (a 39 year old white male) applied for a job at A&F, I would not fit their marketing niche either.

The only thing that all the employees filing suit had in common (besides being non-white), was that that they were all, well, rather “plain” looking, to put it nicely. In fact, the two young former A&F managers that Morley Safer interviewed (and who he desperately tried to get to corroborate his claim of racist hiring practices) never inferred a racist policy on the part of the store. In fact, they said it was more about looks: a quote from Andrea Mandrick, one of the managers, when told by corporate reps to cut back hours of sales managers who didn’t fit the mold: “I was sick of getting my schedule back every week with lines through names, I can't look the people that work for me, that wanna be there, in the eye and say, ‘You know, lie to them and say, ‘Oh, we don't have hours.’ When really it's because they weren't pretty enough.”

Larry Elder, the only counterpoint introduced in the segment and interviewed all too briefly, was the only voice of reason when he stated: “That’s not racism that’s capitalism: This is about a business deciding pursuant to its own best interests, rightly or wrongly, that a particular kind of salesperson is more likely to generate more dollars … It’s all about the bottom line. All too often cases like these end up in court.” Bravo Larry.

Mr. Elder brings up some salient points. Surf over to FUBU.com (whose very name “for us, by us” is blatantly racist and exclusionary) Do you see any white models on those pages? Would you expect to see any white salespeople in the stores? Where is the public outcry? Any lawsuits pending?

What about BET? Can you imagine the backlash in this country if a group of media executives had the audacity to launch the White Entertainment Television network?
BET survives unchallenged because it’s geared towards a certain market. That’s the beauty of capitalism. Abercrombie and Fitch should also be allowed to freely pursue their target market without being labeled racist.

I have the same problem, I really like the Yankees but I cheer for the Braves also. Some people claim that the Braves are too Southern but I don't think so. I don't know what I would do if they meet in the World Series.

I wonder if I should be on another site rather than a spiritual site to ask this question?

they say that they are racist because of the image they present. look at the people that are in their ads and the people that work there. they are typically white, thin an din my opinion, average looking. if they are another race, they must fit the thin profile. also, a few years back, abercrombie had to pull their t-shirts of the market because one of the shirts had a chinese takeout box on the front and said something about chinese people. it was sterotypical.
I don't think that they go around saying things but the image they portrait is not geared toward everyone...

Few years ago, A and F had some graphic tees which showed cartoon asians in a demeaning manner. I love wearing Hollister Co. because I like their clothing, not what messages they send out.

Maybe that is where you should start. Exam their (and possibly yours) behavior and see if any group is targeted better or worst than the others.
