I have a 9 month old cocker and he is kind of REALLY pesty. He always wants to play and I mean always. I have a baby to and whenever we are on the floor with Logan (baby) Hunter (puppy) will not stop bringing the ball or rope. Even outside he always bringing ball or rope. Are all cockers this pesky? I got an email once saying that cockers want to plat to the point of annoynce but I thought he was kidding. Are all cockers just out too play??? They are the cutest dogs but he won't ever leave me alone

I love him very much and would not want to get rid of him. Just wondering if all Cockers are very attached. He is great and I love him lots. Just like a break every once in awhile

I had a cocker spaniel before I fell in love with a smaller breed and they are extremly needy. I felt as if I had a child already at 15. Mickey was there every second. I actually wondered when he slept. They are wonderful dogs so no,, your not alone.

Before you blame the dog too much, perhaps your judgment was off in choosing to get a new puppy at the same time you either were pregnant or had a new baby.
Any puppy is going to want attention, and if you are occupied with your son at the time, then the dog will not understand why it can't still play. But ignoring the dog will not solve your problem, either, the pup may come to resent your son.
WHY do people buy dogs like they're trying out a new pair of shoes? These animals need LOTS of attention, but obviously, your son's needs MUST come first.
Don't go and try to change breeds just because you think a cocker is too active. You made a choice. Spend time with your puppy and work to train him to mind you. A little separation might be good, too, try using a portable kennel (carrier) to make a quiet place for him while the baby is on the floor.
Good luck

Let me tell you a couple of things I know about Cocker Spaniels. One, they are very good watch dogs. I'm not sure whether it's gender related so I can't tell you whether your cocker is the right gender for being so protective, but I know from experience and discussion with owners, they are very good watch dogs. People don't usually know this, but it's true. Second, Cocker Spaniels have a tendency for seizure disorders. This, also, is not something people generally talk about, but I saw my neighbor's Cocker Spaniel go into a grand mal seizure right on my back porch. The dog just braced it's two front legs out in a "V" shape which helped it stay upright and maintain some control, and it came out fine. So, I hope, if you didn't know these things, this might help you love and appreciate your Cocker Spaniel. Yes, they are very cute, and my mother always remembers the one she had back when she was 16 years old, which woulda been back around 1943. His name was Master, and we kids always loved that dog which we had never seen since we weren't born until the 1950's, but we had pictures of him, so . . .. Good luck with your Cocker Spaniel. They're great dogs. God Bless you.

They are adorable dogs but highly energetic. Maybe not the best choice of breed for a busy mom. But, now that you have him, just make sure you try to leave time to spend with him as well playing and take the baby for a walk in the stroller and bring the cocker too! But do make sure you give your cocker boundries.

He is a puppy and at a very active stage. Yes, it is normal for a pup to want a lot of attention and want to play. I am sure he is jealous of the baby too. Maybe a baby and a puppy are too much for you to handle right now. Find the puppy a new home and wait until Hunter is older to get another pet.

Cockers are extremely needy dogs. People should read up on the breed before getting them. They are smart, pushy, needy and can get quite cranky if they are bothered.
Welcome to owning a cocker :)

I think you have your hands full. Puppies love to play even when they mature into dogs. My 13 year old border collie still wants to play but not as often. I think you would find any young dog to be active.

My dog is really hyper too. To calm your dog, put him in a quiet dim-lighted room with a clock that ticks, or a player that has white noise or something. If you want, you can use a fan as well.
